Five Tips to Navigate the ALX Boutique Warehouse Sale This Weekend

The Alexandria Warehouse Sale returns this weekend, celebrating its 20th anniversary of providing amazing discounts for local shoppers. Over 50 boutiques and shops are participating with the core of the sale on Saturday, Feb. 3 - Sunday, Feb. 4. Some stores will be hosting pre-sales on Friday, February 2. To see the full list of participants, visit the official Alexandria Boutique Warehouse Sale site. Also be mindful that each store has their own hours, with some opening an hour earlier and some extending an hour later, check their individual store sites for more details.

To get some insider shopping tips, Stylebook stopped by ConsignALX (Mint Condition and 529 Kids Consign) to hear from the ladies who have been through this rodeo many times before: Megan Podolsky and Katie Coslov. Not only did Meghan, our social media manager, and I dart right over to our “size” racks and take a mental checklist of faves, we also practiced trying on clothes quickly. I had a tank on under my denim jacket, she had on a sweater. I was a little faster. With this practice run under our belts, here are our tips meshed with theirs on how to successfully “shop til’ your arms drop”:

Tip #1: Wear a tank top. This way you can easily slide a blouse or sweater over your head, or try on a jacket or coat without it feeling too bulky. Also with the shopping frenzy, you’ll want to keep cool, and overheating in a sweater can slow your pace.

Tip #2: Wear leggings. Not only are they comfortable, it’s easy to slip on joggers or other wide-leg pants or skirts over them without having to wait on line for the dressing room.

Tip #3: Wear slip-on shoes. No laces, no hassles, on, off quickly — and your feet will thank you later, after walking Old Town for hours.

Tip #4: Don’t forget the others— your partner, your friends — and your kids. While we have a ball shopping for ourselves, it’s a great time to score some deals for your hubby who’s been looking a little grubby. 529 Kids Consign also has some great stuff for the kiddos and spring break is approaching.

Tip #5: Check out the map — print it from the official web site or pickup a paper copy at participating stores. Visit your top stores first! Items go quickly. If you’ve been eying something, and there’s a store that is your go-to — stop there first.

Most importantly — just have fun! This is a great opportunity to check out stores and boutiques you may have never stepped inside before. And there were will be lots of fun surprises along the way!
