Our Picks From The Warehouse Sale

It’s hard to believe that it has been 19 years since we held the first Alexandria Warehouse Sale. I really didn’t know what I was doing in the inaugural year when we started in Old Town. But, each year we got better and better at it, and the crowds and the participating vendors continued to grow. We went from The Campagna Center, to the George Washington Masonic Memorial, to the Westin where the last off-site event was held in 2020.

When we couldn’t host it in a hotel anymore, we did what any small business community would do – we figured out another way. This way was called the “Walkable” Warehouse Sale. It was the best we could do in 2021, due to the pandemic, and well, it worked. We didn’t have outside vendors like in the past, and we didn’t have the adrenaline-fed frenzy at dawn that happened when we were all under one roof. But, there were for sure some upsides. First, more Alexandria stores can participate now. We had limited space and some stores couldn’t bring their inventory to a second location – but now it’s easier. The markdowns happen inside each store! This year, we have also figured out how to include some participants who don’t have a brick-and-mortar shop. The Lorien Hotel and The Torpedo Factory are hosting some pop-up shops for the weekend, too!

To find out who is where, and what stores are participating, visit the official Warehouse Sale website. There are more than 50 stores participating this time. There is everything from art, to kids’ apparel, to running gear, to fashion for men and women, to home furnishings, and much more. You can’t miss out on this weekend! You might just find something you cannot live without, and with a deal, too! These are the best prices of the year and things go fast!

The sale is on Saturday and Sunday (but some stores are closed Sunday, so check the site). We start our markdowns on Friday, so shop early with us. We will also be opening early at all three stores in the Hive family. We open on Saturday at 9am – which we don’t even do for the Sidewalk Sale. We know folks like to get an early start, so grab a coffee and come check out all of our great deals.

All our sale merchandise is marked down by 60 to 80 percent. I know folks always think sale racks are picked over, but we have lots left. I mean lots and the prices are crazy. I had everyone on the team pick out some of their favorite finds from the sale. I mean, we actually shop our own sale! It’s that good – you just can’t pass up some of these deals.

Happy Warehouse Weekend!

Owner | The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
