Not to brag or anything, but I do consider myself the foremost expert on all things beach. In another life or maybe in just a few years, I would like to own a super-small, beat-up house on the beach somewhere and waitress to pay my bills if I am not able to do so through some sort of creative endeavor. I will do whatever enables me to spend the bulk of my daytime hours in the sun, sand, and surf. I would toss all of my beautiful shoes for the ability to walk barefoot most places. And I would gladly live in caftans and cover-ups even if it means I would have no need for my cashmere sweaters and Aquatalia boots.
I would be really great at living the beach life and fully intend on making it happen one day. To me, there is nothing better than the lingering salt on my skin after a day in the sun. And if leathery skin is the price I pay for spending above-average time basking in it, then I am ready and willing to pay it. (I can practically hear the Bellacara women gasp!)
It is, therefore, not so coincidental that come summer our store is well stocked in luxurious beach essentials. Beach bags and sunglasses, beaded jewelry and straw fedoras, flip flops and cover-ups. Everything but the bathing suit! When you prepare for your next beach trip, you may not think of The Shoe Hive as a necessary pre-vacation stop. But here are several reasons why you would be wrong:
Reason #1: The Beach People & Twine and Twig
I recently wrote about Twine and Twig jewelry and how much I love the brand’s aesthetic. We now carry it at The Shoe Hive and will be ordering pieces from their new summer collection soon. Their summer designs will pair effortlessly with everything from t-shirts and shorts to silk caftans, and any other beach attire you pack.
Similar to Twine and Twig, The Beach People is a brand I have followed and obsessed over on Instagram for several years. Unlike Twine and Twig, however, I had never thought of bringing the brand’s product to The Shoe Hive until Elizabeth stumbled on it and thought I was crazy for never having suggested it! Within a week, we were unpacking boxes of The Beach People’s towels and totes.
The Beach People was founded in the summer of 2013 by sisters Emma and Victoria. (It just so happens that Twine and Twig was founded by sisters, too!) They make beach essentials that are designed to bring luxury and leisure to your seaside adventures and are inspired by their own beach travels to places such as Morocco and Montauk. The towels are hand drawn, designed in Australia, and 100 percent made of the finest cotton. The original “roundie” is oversized and ultra soft — you will never buy another rectangular beach towel again!
Reason #2: The Importance of the Beach Bag
Every other season of the year I carry the same bag. I buy one and I wear it with everything through fall, winter, and spring. Summer, however, requires a different kind of bag. Calling it a beach bag limits its function, but that is generally how we refer to it. Come summer, I have much more to carry with me. It’s not unheard of that I bring a swimsuit, cover-up and towel to work so I can change at the end of the day and go straight to my pool for the last few hours it is open! If you, too, are in need of a beach bag, this year Tory Burch, Hat Attack, The Beach People, and Gigi New York have all released new beach tote styles that can take you from pick-up to the pool and back.
Reason #3: Attention to Detail
A successful trip to the beach requires attention to the smaller things such as a good water bottle, a plethora of hair ties, coordinating hats, and the right footwear. The Shoe Hive can supply all of that and more. Most of you know to pay us a visit when you need a S’well bottle, but you might also want to stock up on a hair emergency kit, a hairband, and an extra pair of sunglasses. (You should always have a pair for the beach and one for regular use.)
To inspire you just a little more, I’ve created three coordinated beach “looks” I would gladly bring with me on my own next beach adventure!
