How does a well-known and highly successful Alexandria realtor, new wife, and leader in multiple Alexandria charities approach her workouts? One word: commitment.
Throughout her pregnancy, Allison Goodhart DuShuttle made her workouts an important part of her busy schedule. As the co-owner of one of Alexandria’s top real estate companies, Allison gives to her workouts like she does everything else: with hardcore commitment.
As Greg Mckeown in the New York Times bestseller “Essentialism” says,
“It is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done. It doesn’t mean just doing less for the sake of less either. It is about making the wisest possible investment of your time and energy in order to operate at our highest point of contribution by doing only what is essential.”
Running a successful business and being pregnant, Allison made the wisest use of her time.
Ryan Jankowitz, a seasoned FOR trainer, has been working with Allison since she began at FOR. He trained her for her incredible wedding, and he was up to the challenge of keeping Allison fit throughout her pregnancy. Ryan says, “I always looked forward to my training sessions with Allison at FOR and I was very impressed with her commitment to fitness.”
Allison told Ryan she came — by way of Alexandria Stylebook I might add! — with a goal to both look and feel good. He says, “Boom, that part was easy!” Allison had the ability to learn challenging and complicated movements like the kettlebell swing and Turkish get-ups, which made my job easy.”
While Allison is committed to her new husband and son, she is actively involved in Alexandria charities, and her commitment shows through her leadership positions. She has been on the Advisory Council for the Fund for Alexandria’s Child since 2008 and was co-chair of the council 2014 through 2016. She also is involved with Junior Friends of The Campagna Center. Currently, she is the PR Chair of the Junior Friends board, and she was known for co-chairing their famous Heather & Greens sale in 2014 and 2015.
Maintaining a full-time career, volunteering, and making time for fitness is impressive to say the least. What we are most impressed with was her commitment to her regular workouts at FOR while pregnant. She kept up with her FOR workouts all the way through March, only two weeks prior to delivering Brooks. Allison plans to return to her workouts in June.
For those of you who are pregnant, or considering pregnancy, we at FOR are equipped to help you keep your fitness before, during, and after your pregnancy. At FOR we are passionate about educating the benefits of exercise during and after pregnancy. The three biggest reasons are:
- It strengthens your pelvic floor.
- It prepares your body to be better able to handle the physical stress of pregnancy and to ward off back and pelvic pain.
- It benefits baby! Babies of exercising moms are shown in studies to have better birth outcomes, healthy birth weights, and higher APGAR scores.
You can give the gift of fitness to your baby before he or she takes that first breath in this big world. We always love to extend the FOR family – babies and all.
