In addition to going to the shows to look for new designers, we receive dozens of unsolicited emails each week from people who want us to carry their lines. It rarely works. But a few weeks ago, a certain email caught my eye. For one, the writer noted immediately that she had been given my name from my good friend and Alexandria Scout Guide Editor Alison Teer. With her seal of approval, I knew it had to be good. Once I clicked on the line sheet I was interested, but I needed to make sure it fit us, on a personal level.
When it comes to jewelry we typically get to meet the designer since they are almost always smaller, U.S.-based companies. We know when we fall in love with both a jewelry line and the designer, it is highly likely to resonate with our customers. We call it “buying Karma.” Even with the larger lines we carry like Alexis Bittar and RJ Graziano, the designers are at market, in person, and they couldn’t be nicer.
A few weeks ago, the woman who sent me the line sheet that intrigued me, Tara Montgomery, walked into my store. She had a warmth about her you just couldn’t miss. A mother of two young kids, an oncology nurse by day and jewelry designer by night, her jewelry was the perfect representation of her outlook. It was simple, elegant, and easy to wear—yet I hadn’t seen anything like it anywhere else. That matters because sometimes jewelry can be redundant, and jewelry that everyone already owns won’t sell. This was not typical, and neither was Tara.
Starting Friday, October 16 we will be hosting a trunk show of Tara Montgomery’s fall line. View her entire collection and receive 20 percent off her line. If you stop into The Shoe Hive between 1 and 5 on Saturday, October 17 you will get to meet the designer herself!
See the star? That’s the necklace we’ll be giving away to one of the lucky trunk show guests. It is stunning on its own and makes a great layering piece. No purchase necessary, just pay us a visit and we’ll take care of the rest! The winner will be announced on Sunday at 530PM.
