1 Skirt, 4 Ways

1 Skirt 4 Ways

We can all get stuck in a fashion rut, and mine is the denim rut. I fall into it because it is easy. I know what to wear with denim and I know that it will look good — so I stay the course.

When we go on our buying trips we try to keep in our heads the Alicia McCaslin mantra of “buy less/choose well.” At both of our stores, we want our customers to get their money’s worth. We know when you shop with us, you are making an investment in your wardrobe so we want it to stand the test of time and make getting dressed simple. Most of us have enough black pants; we need other options that will make us feel good when we put them on and can take us from day to night and through multiple seasons.

One of this fall’s biggest trends can do just that – the skirt.

One of my personal favorites this season is the ribbon skirt by Raquel Allegra. Not only does it look great, it is imminently comfortable. Paired with a muscle tee and sneakers, you can wear it to run errands around town or do lunch. When the temperature drops, throw on some booties and an oversized sweater or jacket and your ribbon skirt is still great for a casual office. Add the matching silk shirt and a great velvet slide and you are ready for a night out.

Now that I think more about this skit, I’m convinced that not only do you need – I need it, too. I can wear it at the store with my collection of dressy sweatshirts when I need something that allows me to move around. It also would be perfect when I host Thanksgiving this year or when I throw on some heels and I am ready to hit a few holiday parties.

Come in to check out Raquel Allegra’s solution to the denim rut!

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
