Bellacara’s 2019 Beauty Trends Report: Skincare Edition

The past few years have seen major innovations in skin care technology. Light therapy, micro-current, and sonic bristle devices all entered our homes. This year the innovation seems to be in ingredients. The following are going to be big trends this year, according to beauty experts.

Repair the skin’s barrier

With pollution becoming an ever-growing concern, a big focus this year will be on building and repairing our skin’s barrier. Pollution and environmental aggressors account for the lion’s share of our skin’s aging. Ensuring a healthy lipid barrier and fortifying the outer layer are essential to a youthful appearance. The best way to accomplish this is to use a gentle, daily exfoliation rather than more aggressive physical exfoliators and to use a fortifying product.

Retinol will be essential

There’s a reason experts have long sung its praises: used daily, this vitamin A derivative has been clinically proven to speed up cell turnover, fade fine lines and dark spots, treat acne, and reduce the appearance of pores more than any other anti-aging ingredient on the market. Try using an effective-yet-gentle formula so that daily use can be tolerated.

Brightening serums bring the glow from within

Last year was the year of the highlighter. Creams, powders, and liquids were all the rage. This year, makeup looks get more natural and so the glow needs to come from your skin. Enter brightening serums. These serums work to diminish dark spots, even skin tone, and illuminate the skin. Used in conjunction with a vitamin C serum, the results can be amazing.

CBD products are big

What is CBD? CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of more than 80 compounds called cannabinoids extracted from the cannabis sativa plant. Unlike THC, CBD does not result in a high. Both CBD and THC are chemically similar to your body’s own endocannabinoids. This allows them to interact with your cannabinoid receptors. The interaction impacts the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals responsible for relaying messages between cells.CBD has been shown to be very effective at easing pain, fighting inflammation, easing anxiety, and reducing nausea. So what does this have to do with skincare? As a result of these benefits, there has been a surge in CBD products on the market as of late, and the beauty industry is taking note. No longer just in pain lotions and gummies, CBD oil is making its way into all skincare for it’s anti-inflammatory and pH-balancing properties. The CBD patches we brought in before the holidays were found to be so effective that we sold out several times. As a result, I am now a big believer in the benefits and you’ll be seeing some new additions in store soon.
