A Week with The Patterson Group

Recently The Patterson Group had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic intern at our office. We were so flattered by her write-up afterwards that we couldn’t help but share. Lindy Moss is a rising senior at Episcopal High School with a longstanding interest in real estate (and a longtime devotion to HGTV). She joined us on our daily, varied tasks over the course of a week, asking thoughtful, intelligent questions and offering keen insights throughout, to see whether her dreams about working in real estate were worth pursuing in and after college. An incredible goalie and dedicated student, Lindy is currently committed to play soccer at Babson College, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for her after that. If it has something to do with real estate, the industry will be very lucky!

By Lindy MossI could not have had a better experience interning with The Patterson Group last week. Britt, Susie, Paige, Maria, Phyllis, and Joanne took me under their wing as the week flew by filled with fast-paced work and countless adventures meeting clients or checking on listings. I had so many questions, and even on a tight schedule, the team members were happy to take time to share their knowledge with me.Not only are the ladies on the team driven professionals and amazing at what they do, but they also know how to be on a team and divide and conquer. I had the opportunity to experience a couple of home inspections with Susie, Britt, and Maria and witnessed a calm, informative environment at a time where the buyer could have been under a lot of stress due to the closer look at their future home. On another day, I got to see how Joanne put her client at ease with her “everything is amazing” attitude and praise of his work on a luxury project in D.C., even when the project was taking longer than expected.Everyone has a specialty within the office, which helps day-to-day tasks run smoothly, even during market madness (which, I learned, is not typically in July, but somehow these women were busy and constantly running around all week). One specialty that I admired was Susie’s keen eye and ability to talk to me as her friend and explain things that she’s picked up over her years with the team, too.It was refreshing to see how brilliantly minded women work together, not only to get deals closed but also to be there for their coworkers and friends when they needed to talk about their house flooding after the storm — or were solely in need of a salad. If I had any doubt about whether I wanted to work in real estate after college, last week with The Patterson Group sent all my hesitations away. Hopefully one day (once I have knowledge about the industry beyond what I’ve derived from HGTV), I will be able to be a part of something as wonderful as what I saw in action last week.
