The INS and OUTS for 2025: Aesthetic Medicine Edition

I’m jumping on the New Year bandwagon here, so let's get into what’s IN and what’s OUT for all things aesthetic medicine.

Regenerative medicine is IN and in a BIG way—the movement towards a regenerative approach to aesthetics has been gaining a lot of momentum over the past few years, but I believe this year it will really take off.

The bio simulators have been around for some time (Sculptra and Radiesse) but their results have not, because they take time. Speaking from experience I’ve been using Sculptra for four years and I can say it took me two years to really drink the Sculptra kool aide—and y’all—I’m here for it! My skin has never been this bright and tight. What these biosimulators have shown us, is the quick one visit fix is OUT and instead a guided aesthetic plan over the course of 12-24 months is IN.

Similarly, platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been around for over a decade, but the new kid on the block: Platelet Derived Growth Factors (PDGF) promises a higher concentration of the active growth factors stimulating collagen production and cell migration resulting in firmer, tighter skin. The added bonus, this does not require a blood draw like traditional PRP! This would be used during a microneedling or laser treatment. These types of regenerative medicine help to strengthen the skin resulting in a more natural aging process.

Which leads me to the next IN for 2025 - subtle natural enhancements. Big lips are certainly OUT along with overfilled cheeks. Instead we are focusing on full face balancing, being intentional on where we place these products with the end result providing better overall support resulting in a refreshed not over filled look.

Additionally advances in nonsurgical treatments, like skin tightening devices such as Ultherapy © are definitely IN. We know we age three dimensionally with decent occurring in our structure, soft tissue, and skin. Ultherapy © is considered a foundational treatment of any aesthetic care plan as it addresses the structure of our tissue. It is a non-surgical procedure that uses ultrasound energy to tighten and lift the skin on the face and neck. The treatment targets both the fibromuscular and dermal tissue layers. This dual depth treatment provides the patient with the best lift possible. The treatment can be customized to your specific needs or areas of concern and you can expect little to no downtime!

Lastly, and a perfect time of the year to embrace this IN for 2025, is taking care of your skin. This time of the year is notorious for leaving our skin dry and chapped from the constant weather changes (and perhaps a bit more festive fun and not enough good old fashion H20). Adding a moisture rich night cream, like BioCream ©, a Merz product, adds an additional layer of not only moisture but protection to keep that hydration in. Protecting your skin starts with hydration and always a good sunscreen! As always, take advantage of my complimentary consultation to discuss all of the above INs for 2025!
