Dorm Starter Kit, Part 1: Skincare
So, you’re off to college. Late nights “studying” may mean that you don’t always have a chance to do a thorough skincare regimen at night. Those late nights may mean late wake-ups and running off to class, which means that the morning skincare routine may suffer as well. Easy and effective skincare can be the difference between good skin and bad under these conditions. These are the products every college gal should have in her arsenal.
1. Skincare Wipes
We like Rilastil Towelettes, which are actually infused with their daily cleansing milk. This soft towelette will remove all sweat, surface dirt, and makeup (including eye makeup). Keep them by your bed and you’re sure to at least have clean skin before you hit the pillow.
2. Make-Up Eraser
This microfiber washcloth removes all traces of makeup with just water. If you have water and this cloth, you have a clean face in two minutes.
3. Face Wash
Even with the Make-Up Eraser and skin care wipes, a good thorough cleansing is essential a few nights a week. A good gel cleanser that won’t over strip the oils from your skin is essential. We like Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel. This soap-free formula is designed to remove impurities without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance.
4. Moisturizer
Get an effective moisturizer for your skin type, but make sure it's well priced. Price is important. If it’s too pricey, you won’t replenish it. You’re more likely to bounce around different moisturizers and your skin probably won’t be happy. We like Fresh Rose Gel Cream or any number of Mario Badescu moisturizers.
5. Drying Lotion
Speaking of Mario Badescu, you must have the drying lotion. This potion is top notch when it comes to drying up pimples overnight.
6. Exfoliator
A weekly exfoliation to remove the dead skin cells will help keep your skin looking clear. Find one suitable for your skin type and use it at least once a week. Unsure of which type to use, just ask us and we’re happy to help you select the right one.
7. Sunscreen
Such a personal choice! Most people who don’t use daily sunscreen say it is because they don’t like the way it feels. I promise we can help with that. There are so many options available now that we are sure to have one you’ll like. Ninety percent of the skin’s aging is atmospheric. Ninety! So please, we know we sound like your mother here, but wear your sunscreen. In 20 years, you’ll thank us…and your mother… for pushing the issue.
