Golden Globes 2019: Best & Worst Beauty

I'm generally not a big fan of taking major hair or makeup risks at awards shows; I leave that for events like the Met Gala where you tune in specifically to see the outlandish and avant garde. However, Sunday night's Golden Globes red carpet offered some risks that worked and some that, in my opinion, definitely didn't.

Lady Gaga

[one_second]Let's be honest, she wouldn't be Gaga if she didn't push the envelope and this red carpet was no exception. Not many people can pull off blue hair, but oddly, it worked. Her makeup was perfect with a slightly smoky eye and nude lip, and the interesting bun on her head sort of resembled a crown. This was also perfect because her gown definitely seemed like something a princess would wear. The blue wasn't overdone and somehow she ended up looking even more elegant as a result.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second][one_second]

Try Lipstick Queen's Nothing but the Nudes collection lipstick.

Lupita Nyong'o

[one_second]Lady Gaga wasn't the only one who had her beauty team match her dress. Lupita Nyong'o chose an electric blue mascara and eyeliner to match her dress. This would ordinarily be a "don't" in my book, but on her it seemed fresh and playful, likely because I loved it.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second][one_second]

Try this look with Stila's eyeliner in Cobalt and Blinc's blue mascara.

Camilla Belle

[one_second]Here's where matching your dress can go terribly wrong in my opinion. Camilla Belle's teal eye shadow resembled something out of Avatar. It was striking, but in a cartoonish way. That said, this could have been a win with a lighter hand.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second][one_second]

Try Surratt Beauty's Envier eye shadow for a similar hue.

Lili Reinhart

[one_second]I couldn't stand her dress, but her makeup was stunning. This is where a certain amount of restraint pays off.  Yes, she wore red eye shadow to match her dress, but it was done with such perfection that I was left wanting to try red eye shadow myself![/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second][one_second]

Try Jouer's Springtime in Paris palette.

Jodie Comer

[one_second]Wow. This one left Madelyn and me smitten. Her makeup was sheer perfection. She seemed ethereal. Her glowing skin was definitely the show stopper. A simple wing of eyeliner paired with a pretty pink lip and cheek color just accentuated the perfection of her skin.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second][one_second]

Try Kevyn Aucoin's Etherealist Foundation for this glow-y look.
