Guide To Virginia Vineyards
Pumpkin spice is officially back on every menu (seriously, every menu) and football is on every TV...and we’re not complaining about either of those things. Fall is officially around the corner which means it's the perfect time to enjoy photogenic foliage, great eats, and other hidden treasures. One of the best things about living in Alexandria is that with just a quick scenic drive, you will immediately be in the heart of some of the most beautiful vineyards in the country. The autumnal season is the perfect time to visit these destinations (picture yourself with a glass of wine in hand, fire pits and warm blankets...paradise). Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway, or a day trip with your girls, here are three can’t-miss spots.
Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard
We’ll just come out and say it: Pippin Hill is an Instagramer’s dream come true. Every single piece of this property is picture-perfect. The vineyard, designed with wedding location needs in mind, is set on a beautiful 40-acres overlooking fields and mountains. A long, white stone path overlooks lush meadows and leads you to the rusticly chic farmhouse. Globe string lights glisten over the covered porch. About 16 wines are offered for tastings, glass, or bottle purchase. Enjoy the fresh, gourmet food out on the porch (usually accompanied with a background of live string instruments) or sit inside and overlook the mountains. In the fall, Pippin Hill offers blankets and fire pits all over their grounds. We think this would pair perfectly with their Cabernet Sauvignon and one of their charcuterie boards.

Barrel Oak Winery
They. Allow. Dogs. We repeat: great wine and good pups. Barrel Oak was even voted as one of the most dog-friendly wineries in the state (they even offer dog treats!). You are guaranteed to see a friendly puppy within seconds of walking onto this beautiful estate. This vineyard is built around the concept of creating a place of community by bringing family and fun together and creating memories. The beautiful countryside backdrop is another added bonus. This welcoming atmosphere would be the perfect ending after a beautiful fall hike with your loved ones. Take your pick of one of the many cozy fire pits and picnic tables. Enjoy their TGI Sunset Specials to unwind after a work week. From 4-9pm, all bottles are $4 off.

Jefferson Vineyards
You can’t not stop at the original presidential winery. As a model American and entrepreneur, Jefferson sought to replicate the “finer” wines he had become accustomed to in France right in his own backyard. The current wines still live up to that expectation. The vineyard grounds are just one mile south of Monticello, so take a fall hike around Jefferson’s home and finish at his vineyard. This countryside is not only deeply rooted in history, but also conservation and sustainability. The team participates in numerous acts to protect everything from soil and water, to bees. Don’t want to travel all the way to Charlottesville to try some of these glasses? You can taste them right in Alexandria's backyard at Mount Vernon’s Fall Wine Festival from October 11-13.
