High Mileage Makeup Brushes
As a long-time makeup lover, I’ve acquired quite the collection of makeup brushes! From synthetic fibers to luxury blue squirrel, I’ve got them all. And, as any great makeup artist will tell you, having the correct makeup brushes – of good quality – makes all the difference in makeup application.
Although I don’t use all of my brushes every day, they’re great to have in my arsenal for the days where I feel like switching up my daily makeup routine, or when I stumble upon a makeup look that I want to recreate! As for my daily routine, there are certain brushes in my collection that have earned themselves a spot in Jennifer’s High Mileage Brush Club! These are my staples:
Large Powder Brush
A large, dome-shaped powder brush is your best friend when the goal is to apply light-powder coverage to any large area of the face. Because the fluffy bristles allow for light application, it permits the user to build coverage as necessary (no cake for me, thanks). I utilize this brush for both pressed and loose powders alike! Being one of my most frequently used brushes, I just recently upgraded to Surratt’s Artistique Face Brush. I’ll never use another large powder brush for as long as I live.
Bronzer Brush
No matter how you wear your bronzer—all-over sun swept or cheek-cutting contour, a good medium size bronzer brush will do the trick! Being partial to the latter, my go-to bronzer brush is no other than Westman Atelier’s Powder Brush. When using this brush to apply powder bronzer, I dust the bronzer in the shape of a 3 along the frame of my face: through the hair line, under the cheek bones, and back down along the jaw.
Finishing Brush
After applying blush and bronzer, I use a Finishing Brush, in conjunction with my Laura Mercier pressed translucent powder, to blend, blend, and blend! A light dusting through the powder, applied in circular motions, assures that my contour and blush blend into my foundation for a natural sculpt and flush.
Cream & Highlighter Brush
If you’re going to break the “rules” of makeup, you must possess the right tools to do so! I’m sure you’ve heard this rule of thumb – creams before powders. Since I’m equally fond of my Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder and Westman Atelier’s Petal Edition cream blush & highlighter, I depend on Róen’s Blush + Blend brush to apply my creams without wiping away the powder. I swipe the brush through the cream and use an upward patting motion on the apples of my cheeks and high cheekbones. No signs of breaking the rules, either!
Eye Brush
Because my morning eye-makeup routine often looks more like cutting corners than cutting creases, I reach for Róen’s Everything Eye Brush to zhuzh up my eyes in a flash. The dome shape fits perfectly in the crease, and blends out eyeshadow effortlessly with light windshield-wiper strokes. The corresponding pencil-tip brush adds definition to the lash line, and is even suitable to add a pop of highlight to the inner corners of the eyes and under the eyebrows.
And, don’t forget to take care of your brushes!
