Holiday Magic on Upper King Street: Join Us at Boxwood Old Town

As we approach our holiday reveal in just a week and a half, I can’t help but feel a mix of nerves and excitement bubbling within me. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of planning, with UPS and FedEx deliveries becoming a regular sight outside our door. We've been unpacking an astonishing number of boxes—truly, tons of them! Now, with less than ten days left, the clock is ticking to get everything priced and on the shelves.

The team here at Boxwood is reveling in the joy of unboxing and discovering all things Christmas. Each new item sparks joy and creativity as we imagine how they will light up our store. Yet, as I reflect on Boxwood’s upcoming holiday season on King Street, a wave of curiosity (maybe anxiousness) washes over me. Over the past five Christmases on Royal Street, we had honed our craft, becoming intimately familiar with our neighbors and their shopping habits. We knew the cadence of the bustling Fontaine’s and Brut Champagne Bar, where diners would pop in, eager to peruse our holiday treasures while waiting for their tables—or perhaps after indulging in one too many glasses of wine. Old Town Books had its rhythm, too, where husbands browsed for their next read, and wives would sneak away next door to explore our festive offerings.

While our new location at 1205 King Street has been a thrilling adventure for the past six months, I find myself wondering how the holiday spirit will resonate here. Will our neighbors embrace “our holiday brand,” which is not all traditional? Did we procure enough unique inventory to meet the excitement of the season?

I suspect the uncertainties swirling around—perhaps even the backdrop of the upcoming election—are amplifying all my questions. But amidst the introspection, I am filled with an undeniable thrill at what lies ahead. At Boxwood Old Town, we are more than just a store; we are a community hub, and I couldn’t be more excited to share what we have planned for you—our cherished customers, friends, and neighbors, both new and old. Join us on this journey, and together let’s create new memories, celebrate traditions, and embrace the spirit of the season in a way that’s uniquely Boxwood.

Celebrate the Season with Festive Workshops at Boxwood!

The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without a special workshop or event to attend with a friend or loved ones. We’re thrilled to bring back some of our favorite artists who capture the spirit of creativity and joy:

First up is the talented Sue Henry.  She is the founder and owner of Tulusa, a beloved textile studio in Alexandria, Virginia. Sue will be offering two enchanting holiday themed block printing workshops perfect for crafting unique decorations or gift-giving, just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And what's a holiday without wreaths? We’re overjoyed to welcome back the incredible Jeanne Domenech of Morning Bird Design to lead our wreath design workshops. Jeanne’s approach is all about using fresh greens and natural elements, allowing you to create stunning wreaths. With her extensive experience as a floral artist, she has inspired over 500 students to explore nature's bounty through her workshops.

Lastly, we’ve got something special in store for cocktail lovers! Join us for Making Spirits Bright: Cocktail Crafting with the esteemed Jeff Cioletti.
