How To Style Velvet

We are getting closer to Christmas and New Year's Eve, and the parties seem to still be happening. One staple I think every woman should have in their closet for party season is velvet anything. The fun thing about velvet is that it can be so many things: chic, boho, easily dressed up, easily dressed down, and if it has the right look, comfortable and lounge-worthy. Velvet, especially a velvet top, can be your go-to item when you don't feel like squeezing into a dress or constrained by some sort of button-down.

CP Shades is a line we carry year-round. In the summer, we love their linen. In the fall, we love their velvet and corduroy. We have two gorgeous velvet tops in the store right now, and I'm in love with both. The Sibella top has a looser, oversized fit, making it perfect for a sleek pair of pants. Tracy paired it with her faux leather pants, and the combo looks amazing. The wine color button-down has a bit more of a tailored look. We thought it looked great with these patterned pants from Sanctuary. Adding a pop of color like this shirt to the pants makes an impact. CP Shades makes some of the best velvet out there. Both tops can be dressed up or down and will be a staple in your closet for years.

Another company that makes amazing velvet is Johnny Was. This short sleeve top can be dressed up with faux leather pants like Tracy is wearing or can be dressed down with denim. Either way, it's a great top for a holiday or New Year's Eve party. I like the short sleeves because sometimes house parties can be hot inside, especially if the fireplace is going. The kimonos from Johnny Was are always a hit. I love them because they are comfortable and chic. That's a hard combo to come by.

Velvet pants are another holiday party go-to. Tracy liked them with this sweater from Never A Wallflower, but a silk blouse would be nice with them too. The elastic waistband is also a must - to accommodate all of those delicious appetizers!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful and safe holiday season!
