How To Wear Stripes
This time of year, those of us in the fashion industry are asked what trends are forecast for fall. What prints, colors, and cuts will grace the streets as the temperature dips? I want to step back for a moment and discuss something that is always on trend and never loses its cool factor…stripes! Stripes are classic and timeless. If you haven’t yet, it is time to inject them into your wardrobe.Do not be reluctant or hesitant to try this chic French-inspired look. There are multiple ways to rock stripes and bring a traditional-yet-modern look to your closet. Stripes are anything but boring. They come in a variety of patterns, shapes, and sizes. A windowpane pattern is what? Basically horizontal and vertical stripes intersecting. Infused with multiple colors and a mirage of woven ribbons, this dress is perfect for work now and will easily transition into the fall. Keep your accessories simple to keep the outfit from looking too busy. If you are going for a more glamorous vibe, don’t overlook a multi-directional striped midi or maxi dress. It can easily be dressed up with your favorite pair of heels and, with a monochromatic look such as this BCBG knit, you can add statement accessories to complete your outfit. If you feel like dressing more subtly, try a piece in which stripes are actually woven into the body of the fabric yet maintain the same color tone. It is very elegant and inspires bolder jewelry, but there is no need to over-accessorize. Of course a striped, long-sleeved, crew neck top says French Riviera. Throw on some heels and finish with hot red lips and you’ve got the look!
