Moneta, The Roman Goddess of Money

Hi! We are Jean and Kendall, mother and daughter, and co-founders of Moneta Accounting Solutions. Both CPAs, we are so excited to join forces and pursue the dream of having a business of our own. Between us, we have over 35 years of experience in the accounting industry, and can’t wait to help fellow entrepreneurs and business owners get their finances in order and take the timely (and, yes, boring for many) task of maintaining the books off their hands.

You might be wondering, where does Moneta come from? When we were brainstorming a name for our business, we wanted to choose something intriguing and different from your typical accounting firm name. After doing some research, we discovered Juno Moneta, the Roman goddess of money and protectress of funds. She is often depicted on ancient coins, and is shown holding a pair of scales with which to measure out the pile of money that lies at her feet. She is also believed to have been the guard of the Roman temple Capitoline, which was used as the mint for the Roman Empire for over four centuries. We thought to ourselves, “how perfect is this?!” and thus, Moneta Accounting Solutions was born. The feather in our logo comes from a peacock, which is said to be the sacred animal of Moneta in Roman mythology.

I was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida where I attended the University of South Florida and earned my accounting degree and CPA license. I still retain my certificate in Florida, as well as Virginia. I also have varied experience working for a county government, a large accounting firm, and a large law firm, and decided to begin my own bookkeeping practice in 2011.

As for Kendall, she comes from a family of CPAs! Not only am I a CPA, but she has an uncle, cousin, and grandfather who are all CPAs — it’s almost like it’s in her blood or something!

Kendall graduated from George Mason University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Accounting and earned her CPA license shortly after. After graduating, she worked in public accounting, specifically auditing, for almost six years, she then moved into the private sector and worked on the finance team at a financial services firm.

We are both so excited to be combining our experience and pursuing this venture together!

In our spare time, we enjoy spending time with family and friends. Outside of work, Kendall is kept pretty busy with her husband, two young sons, and two French bulldogs. Jean also has a French Bulldog, for a total of three in the family (Kendall likes to take credit for starting this trend, as she got the first Frenchie in the family, named Rose, who we lovingly refer to as the “OG”). We also share a love of gardening and flowers, food, and can’t say no to a good winery visit.

We cannot express enough how much we are looking forward to further connecting with other businesses in Alexandria and beyond, and are always looking to help our clients put their minds at ease in regards to their finances so they can focus on the profit driving activities of their businesses.

We are also thrilled to become contributors at Alexandria Stylebook! So, what can you expect from us in this space?
