Locally Sourced Sips
Did you know that Alexandria is now home to our very own cidery? We have been big fans of Lost Boy Cider for quite some time and they are partnering with us on Saturday for the Walkable Warehouse Sale! This partnership will create a nice respite from shopping in our park space out front (corner of Prince Street and West Street). They will have amazing hard ciders for sale from 12pm-4pm on Saturday, February 4.
Tristan Wright is the owner, and he’s a neighbor of ours as well! He developed a severe gluten allergy a few years back, and the sudden shift inspired him to step away from his 18 year career in business banking. Obviously needing to become gluten-free, he started to dive into gluten-free drinks and food, and he became more interested in cider, as well as the cider-making process. Cider is fermented like wine, so after completing coursework in winemaking, he was able to ferment his first batch of cider (their Comeback Kid) in his basement.
They source their apples from Glaize Orchards in Winchester, Virginia, where they are picked and pressed. The juice is then shipped up to Alexandria, where all of the cider is made on site at their Carlyle (317 Hoofs Run) location. They are keeping the product as pure as possible – the apples are unpasteurized and the cider is unfiltered. They don’t use concentrates or added sugar, and it’s all gluten-free, of course.
So, if you want to taste the magic of locally-made Virginia cider, stop by our park space to sit and enjoy a lovely hard cider with us!
