Ornament Sneak Peek: Part 1

Two weeks ago, we unveiled 11 Christmas trees. Each one is dripping in ornaments with more arriving daily. (Because, you know, supply chain) Some might say it’s a little tight, but I say it’s a lot cozy. The store is a veritable Christmas Forest, and I couldn’t love it more. As we gear up for Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday, I wanted to share a few of the ornaments you can find on our trees.

Speaking of Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday, we will be doing the usual fun. Up early at 6am on Plaid Friday, we will be giving 30 percent off on everything in store and online until 8am. Then from 8am to 10am, we will be giving 20 percent off, and finally from 10am to close you’ll get 10 percent off. This is for both Penny Post and Red Barn Mercantile. If that wasn’t enough fun, on Small Business Saturday, both stores will be giving a gift with purchase all day and King Street from Fayette Street to Washington Street will be blocked off for pedestrians, dining, and a little outdoor fun. At Red Barn Mercantile, we will be creating custom gift boxes for folks to make giving easy and super special.

To make your shopping easy that weekend - or to get it before it’s gone - here’s the first little peek at some of our ornaments (and a few extra holiday goodies). We will be back next week with the rest of our trees.

“Twas the Night” is full of all the fun traditional Santas and Snowmen. This is a perennial favorite and harkens back to our early love for all things vintage. The Christmas tree lot ornament is going to be hanging on my tree this year.

“Cocktail Hour” really makes spirits bright. Festooned with ornaments perfect for your at-home craft cocktail enthusiast. The boxed wine ornament thrills me beyond measure. It reminds me of the time my freshman college roommate left a box of red wine in the room for so long that it turned. Good times.

Our “What’s For Dinner” tree is filled to the top with all the delicious things. It seems that my picky eater son gets an ornament from this tree every year. Last year it was ketchup and this year it will be a meatball sub. I’m particularly fond of the Julia Child ornament. They nailed it with that one.

You know we love the great outdoors. From camping to hiking to all things National Parks, we love it. One of my favorite trees every year is our “Great Outdoors” tree. We are still waiting on lots of ornaments for this tree, specifically our Shenandoah National Park sign, but there are plenty from which your nature loving self can choose. Smokey and the mushroom house are my picks!

Next up is our “Classics” tree, which really needs a new name, but we are sticking with this. It celebrates art, music, and literature. The Mona Lisa hangs next to Bob Dylan and Ella Fitzgerald. Famous works of art by Frida Kahlo and Monet rub metaphorical elbows with Mary Poppins and Mr. Darcy. Such good company all around!

Being a port city and having our pick of beaches within a short drive calls for a tree inspired by the ocean. Our “By The Sea” tree is a fan favorite. This is usually one of our biggest trees and for good reason.  There are so many wonderful ornaments! Here are just a few of the selection. New this year is the beautiful blush starfish and returning again is the sweet hammerhead shark. The coolest shark in the entire ocean if you ask me!
