Oscars 2019: Best Beauty

As the red carpet began, I anxiously awaited some of my favorite actresses to see what they would bring to the red carpet, beauty-wise. The past several years I had not seen any of the nominated performances. This year, however, I managed to see quite a few of them, so, I was actually invested in who wins this…and not just what their hair and makeup look like. That said, I was still crossing my fingers for some major beauty moments to report.Did that happen? Sort of. There were no crazy, bold strokes, no smoky eyes, no jewel-toned eyeshadow. Instead, the look of the night was natural beauty with natural, nude, tone-on-tone makeup. But that didn’t mean it was boring. Taking the same color and using it in different finishes and intensities to create a subtle and ethereal beauty means we have a red carpet trend we can’t wait to actually try in real life.

Linda Cardellini

[one_second]The high bun with loose tendrils around the face made the dress feel elegant without trying too hard. Her bright pink lipstick was a perfect pop of color to hold up to the magnificence of the dress and her bold brow allowed the rest of her makeup to be a subtle compliment.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second]

Kacey Musgraves

[one_second]Channeling Audrey Hepburn, Kacey’s strong brow, fluttery lashes, and nude lip allow the dress to take center stage. I love the ethereal light that the inner eye highlighter emits. A center part on her pulled back hair gave polish and structure which was a nice counter to the frilliness of the dress.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second]

Gemma Chan

[one_second]Her winged eyeliner created a moment of drama. The rest of her makeup was monochromatic tones of pink that complemented rather than competed with the larger-than-life dress.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second]

Lucy Boynton

[one_second]Still unsure about the dress, but her hair and makeup are insanely gorgeous. The Princess Caroline wave and tuck behind the ear is old Hollywood glam. Her makeup is tone-on-tone.  Eyes, lips, and cheeks are all the same color in varying intensities and matte and shine finishes. She never disappoints when it comes to her makeup.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second]

Helen Mirren & Jason Momoa

[one_second]On her, the bright pop of pink on her lip was a great foil for her fabulous silvery white hair.On him, I love the pink velvet tux and the matching scrunchie for when his luscious curls need to be pulled back for the after party. He didn’t just bring a plastic band! Love that. [/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second]

Glenn Close

[one_second]Subtle, pink makeup paired with a loose wave in the hair was simply gorgeous next to her gold gown.[/one_second][one_second] Embed from Getty Images [/one_second]

Melissa McCarthy
