Outfit to Room: Upholstery Sale Edition

It’s February so that means our semi-annual upholstery sale. When I knew this was coming up, I reached out to Elizabeth to give me one of the new looks about which she is most excited. What a wonderful surprise it was when this gorgeous Veronica Beard ensemble and delicious black leather accessories from Stuart Weissman, W. Kleinberg, and Jerome Dreyfuss showed up in my inbox. These are some of my favorite posts to write. They allow me to scratch my design itch. And, you wouldn’t know it by my infinite wardrobe of jeans and tee shirts, but I Iove pretty clothes. If I had a need and a figure for this outfit it would certainly be in my closet.

Merci Blouse in White by Veronica Beard, $395; Ramos Skirt by Veronica Beard, $550; 5050 Boot by Stuart Weitzman, $695; 2 3/8” Contoured Luscious Calf with Covered Buckle by W. Kleinberg; Hemp Fiona Earrings by Mignonne Gavigan, $275; Yannick Handbag in Black by Jerome Dreyfuss, $1,400.

So, that brings me to our upholstery sale and our outfit to room. From February 1 - March 15 we will be taking an additional 10 percent off the already below MSRP price of all our upholstered goods. (All upholstery is marked down 20 percent every day). You’ll find the Emma bed slipcovered in a gorgeous white linen below and the Acacia chair upholstered in leather – go with the dark grey or stick with the brown and you win either way.

Finding the exact animal print to make a big statement in the room was not quite possible, so I went with another organic texture instead. The Nuvolette wallpaper from Cole & Son is quite magical in its appeal. The black and white isn’t too severe and the clouds feel soothing and organic. I stuck with a largely grey scale to go with the outfit, throwing in a bunch of black here and there. The Kelly Wearstler lamp on the dresser just felt like the supple leather of the Jerome Dreyfuss handbag.

You know that I love to mix materials and balance silhouettes. That’s why I chose the reclaimed wood dresser with a decidedly feminine shape to go with the angular steel side tables from Cisco Brothers. The outfit felt very organic to me, so I wanted to keep that feel throughout the room. The mirror reflects the hemp in the earrings and the ceramic lamps on the side tables continue with the organic vibe. Using a jute rug with black details keeps the room interesting and less like a black and white cliché. (Another reason to go for the brown leather instead of the dark grey if you’re feeling up to it).

Just like the skirt is the star of the outfit, the wallpaper is the star of the room. You don’t want to take away from its shine. Again, to balance everything, I kept the bedding simple and the decorative throw and pillow minimal.

All together I’m pretty pleased with this sweet little room. Add family photos and maybe a few pieces of collected art – with a smidge of color perhaps – and you’ve got a lovely room. If you need help pulling together a room, many rooms, or an entire house, our designers are at the ready to help you. Email us at hello@redbarnmercantile.com to get started. Spring is coming so now’s the time for a refresh!
