Grateful or Thankful?
Merriam-Webster defines grateful as feeling or expressing gratitude while thankful means experiencing pleasure, satisfaction, or delight.
Grateful vs. Thankful
Gratitude is the appreciation and awareness of the blessings that exist in our lives.
It is the practice of focusing on what is good instead of what is missing. Being grateful is something that people aspire to be because it fundamentally changes their perspective and lifestyle. Being thankful is a part of this. We should be thankful for the gifts and kindness we receive. Being thankful is a response while being grateful is a choice.
If your head is spinning a little, mine was too while trying to determine the differences in these words. They both speak to our upcoming holiday celebrations and are especially important to remember when our days become super busy.
Even though the holidays are close but still far away, chances are you’re probably already stressed out. It may feel as if you don’t have enough time, money, or energy to fulfill everything on your checklist.
If we want to practice and enjoy both words, it is important to prepare for this busy time of year. Use your time wisely and knock things off your list when you can. I always seem to wait too long with meal prep, wrapping gifts, etc. Homemade cranberry sauce does not need to be made the day of your feast but rather a few days early and stored in the fridge. Same thing with pies–just be sure to hide them for the big day! Try to wrap gifts as you purchase them rather than staying up on Christmas Eve until it's almost time for the kiddos to wake up and come and jump on your bed.
