Pro Tip: You Have To Spend Money To Make Money!

When we first opened our doors, we were painfully aware of the costs involved in running a business. We would agonize over every dollar spent and were conducting ourselves in a short-sighted manner. My husband started to repeat, what almost became a mantra for him, “You have to spend money to make money.” I jokingly begged him to stop saying this to us but then slowly began to realize it’s one thing to be frugal and manage your budget wisely, and it’s another thing to refuse to spend money even when it makes sense. We were actually conducting ourselves in a penny-wise but pound-foolish manner.

As entrepreneurs, we are always looking for ways to cut costs. Cash is the lifeblood of any business and once you run out of it, you’re done. However, as a brick-and-mortar business, we love to fill our shop with exquisite, curated treasures. To this end, we make several buying trips a year to Atlanta, New York, and the “Mack Daddy” of them all, the High Point Market.

High Point Market is one of the largest trade shows in the world for furniture and interior design that takes place semi-annually in the city of High Point, North Carolina. Known as the "Furniture Capital of the World," High Point has a long-standing tradition and history within the furniture industry. We also have relationships with several international vendors who provide us with unique European treasures.

The fair spans multiple buildings and showrooms throughout the city and attracts thousands of industry visitors. It is a daily pilgrimage, to visit them, and since parking is at a premium, once you find a space you stay put. Our days start early and end late, and we get in all our stepsx3! Market also provides networking events, seminars, and lectures where leading experts and other business owners share their knowledge and experience.

We have come a long way since our very first visit to this market and think we have a pretty good grasp of making the most of our days while there. We return home definitely having spent money and are full of hope that you will appreciate our efforts to find very special items for our very special customers.
