Monogram All The Things This April!

I love letters and numbers. They are literally the basics of everything. The most utilitarian thing we can possibly have. A simple machine if you will. The way they are used but specifically the way they are drawn. Give me a typeface library and I will spend hours perusing it. Typeface creates a mood. It evokes an era. It speaks volumes. The way it can be manipulated in design is endlessly appealing. It’s art, pure and simple.

From calligraphy on parchment to wood type on old presses to modern day masterpieces on a PC, typography has been more than just a way to write down information. It’s a way to design an idea, a thought, a feeling. To bring it to life in a way that feels purposeful. I won’t wax poetic on it. Instead, I’ll point you to the wonderful Netflix documentary Abstract. Watch season 2, episode 6 where they feature Jonathan Hoefler, a master in the field of typography and the mastermind behind typography.com. You will be glad you did. Really, the entire series is fantastic. Watch all of them.

Loving type as I do translates to monograms. We are super excited to host three fun monogramming events at our stores this month. First up is Red Barn Mercantile. From April 19 to 21, we’re doing free monogramming on select Pine Cone Hill and Dash & Albert items. Need bath towels for yourself or a student going off to college? This is a great time to grab them. A robe for mom with her monogram? We’ve got it! Even throws, bedding and aprons. In addition to soft goods, we are offering free monograms on our new cutting boards and charcuterie boards. Perfect for the chef, griller, and entertainer just in time for all the parental unit holidays!

Then we will be having some fun at Pippin Toy Co. On April 20, join us for our first-ever patch party. We will be giving away simple pouches, on which your kiddo can add a patch or two to make their own. They do the selecting, and we will do the ironing. No purchase necessary just come and have fun!

Finally, this one might be the one I’m most excited about. On April 21, Penny Post is hosting Jesse Kirsch of No Plan Studio and his tabletop letterpress. Are you letterpress curious? Have you ever wondered how it all works? Well, this is your chance to get a taste of the process and a little party favor to take home with you.

Jesse will be running notecards with your initials through his press so come and get a little something to send to folks or save as a forever keepsake. In addition to letterpressing, Jesse will be offering up some of his amazing original designs. His print of stumpy is not to be missed!

If you love letters like I do, then please make a plan to visit us soon!
