Oscars 2023: Our Best Dressed

The carpet may have bucked tradition in turning champagne this year, but classic Hollywood glamour set the tone for the evening, just as it should. This may be our favorite event to pull style inspiration from – after all, we know that the ladies of this town are nothing short of elegant, always. You’ve seen the lists of best dressed from Sunday evening, now here’s a local take on the looks of the night to inspire your next glamorous outing...

Dr. Megan: My top three looks of the evening from Deepika Padukone, Malala Yousafzai, and Cara Delevingne were all about classic Hollywood glamour accentuated with a statement-making modern touch. Of the three, Cara’s powerful red look is my absolute favorite – I mean her necklace is a snake! Absolutely stunning. In fact, it was a family favorite: my 16-year-old son yelled “what a dress!” when Cara walked on stage.

Michaela: Cara Delevingne wins my best-dressed vote in a stunning Elie Saab Gown, taking Hollywood Glamour to the next level! It was refreshing to see such a bold bright color on the carpet which seemed to be dominated by creams, whites, and champagnes. The Bulgari jewelry is the perfect addition of sparkle without being over the top and the necklace compliments the one-shoulder dress perfectly. Topped off with a sleek low bun and a golden smokey eye, it was the rosy color lip that softened the ensemble and tied the look together. The show stopper was the thigh-high slit highlighting the matching Stuart Weitzman heel.

Elizabeth: For me, Zoey Saldana and The Rock were the highlights of the evening. Zoey’s couture Fendi gown has that effortless ease we love, without comprising any of the elegance and glamour. And, The Rock, it’s pink, enough said. But seriously, here’s another guy who’s been paying attention to style. The ballet-inspired pink is classic and glamorous, making it the perfect pick for the red carpet.

Maria Elizabeth: The 2023 Oscars were graced by the one and only Miss Flo, who as always, added her unique touch of glam to the red carpet. Her innovative updo was a stunning combination of sophistication and daring. We are all going to be turning our boring ponytails into bold bangs after seeing Miss Flo's look.

Britt: Emily Blunt in all-white Valentino. So simple and elegant! The long lines are timeless. And, keeping to the linear aesthetic, her cascading ruby teardrops are the perfect subtle pop of color to bring her elegantly feminine look to life.

Amanda: Emily Blunt spoke to me the most with her dewy makeup, sleek hair, chandelier earrings, and her Valentino white gown. Simply elegant! Another on-trend white moment was from Michelle Yeoh in not just any white but Dior Haute Couture, minimal makeup, a diamond hair accessory, great earrings, and a massive Moussaieff diamond ring. Not to mention, Lady Gaga’s old-meets-new style with a Versace gown, killer smokey eyes, red lips, and a Tiffany’s 1950’s vintage platinum-diamond necklace. As for the gentlemen, Michael B. Jordan was the winner for me in his custom Louis Vuitton double-breasted tuxedo with his lapel decorated with a pair of Tiffany & Co.'s Bird on a Rock Brooches.

Celthia: I thought Michelle Yeoh looked stunning! I loved her white Dior Couture fringed gown. Delicate, feminine, ethereal and light, like she's floating on air. Her soft glam makeup, classy diamond jewelry and headband were a nice complement. A beautiful look for a beautiful woman!

Amy: Here's the thing about me, I don't do sparkle or lace. I think the spareness of a dress can be way more compelling. It's drama without having to resort to shiny tricks. So, it should be no surprise to you that my favorite dresses are sparkle free but are interesting in so many ways. There were several really good ones – Gaga was flawless, Mindy Kaling has been killing it on the red carpet and last night's white-on-the-carpet and black-on-the-stage identical numbers were very cool, Angela Bassett was regal in that gorgeous purple confection (fit, fabric, and architecture!), Emily Blunt's perfectly spare hair, makeup and dress balanced with just a touch of color in those incredible earrings were drama personified, Cate Blanchett rarely disappoints and this year was no exception. The color, drape, and fit of her dress were amazing. Also, her hair was just tousled enough to be a perfect juxtaposition. But, I think my favorite all night was Monica Barbaro (who, I am embarrassed to say, I had to google as I have not seen Top Gun Maverick yet). It was stunning in its simplicity, the colors worked beautifully together and were so compelling, the sweet bow with the plunging neckline played against each other effortlessly, and her updo and makeup were just right. She lacked any sparkle, instead, she let the dress do the talking, which I think worked. Always a fun night at the Oscars!
