Silhouettes By Erik And More This September At Monday’s Child

This time of year always feels so conflicting for me. I'm soaking up every last moment of summer and never want it to end, but I'm also so excited for my favorite season, fall, and kids going back to being in school (and hopefully staying in). I don't want one season to end, and I can't wait for the next season to begin. New uncertainties around the Delta variant definitely don't help, so I'm focusing on things I'm excited about and remaining hopeful for a safe, healthy, happy September – we've got lots of great events planned!

Something I'm really looking forward to next month: a visit from Erik Johnson, silhouette artist extraordinaire. Twice a year, Silhouettes by Erik comes to Monday's Child for the day and hand cuts silhouettes just by looking at the subject's profile. It is nothing short of amazing watching his talent. Erik's family has been cutting silhouettes for more than six decades, traveling the world creating these incredible keepsakes. His raw talent amazes me every time I watch it. While Finding Nemo plays on an iPad and captures the attention of the child, Erik quickly captures the sweet details of their profile, using little scissors and black paper. The keepsake customers go home with is beautiful. It's the best day.

I've wanted to promote this event with Stylebook in the past, but we were always sold out of spots. So, we're announcing it here first: Silhouettes by Erik will be at the store on Saturday, September 18, from 10am - 5pm.

This event fills up faster and faster every time we host it, so if you are interested, grab a spot ASAP. No age is too young or too old. We have had babies as young as one month old being held up by their mom; we've had parents and grandparents, and all ages in between. I also tell people all the time, if my wild boys who don't like to sit still can be done, so can yours. And, for the cost ($30 for one), it's fun to get them done of your children a few times to see how they grow – there isn't one age where you should come in and get it done. Silhouettes make the best gifts, and customers love to stock up for family members for Christmas.

Sign-ups are free. Silhouettes cost $30 each, a duplicate of the same child is $15, and frames are also available.

Other events to look forward to in September!…

Saturday, September 11: Pineapple Sunshine Trunk Show! We're hosting local D.C. designer Shanlee Johnson, who has created a gorgeous and extremely soft line of children's clothing, size newborn to six. Meet the designer and fall in love with her beautiful line that's become a best seller for us

Sunday, September 12: Heirloom Portraits with Renée C. Gage Photography will be returning! We had a hugely successful first event last spring, and the unbelievably talented and sweet Renée will be back for more sessions taking angelic vignettes of her subjects.

We hope you enjoy your summer, and we can't wait for you to stop by to see our latest arrivals!
