Styling My Mom
If you read Alexandria Stylebook, you know Ali Helmuth. If you have met Ali, you know she is as kind and funny as she is stylish and beautiful. I mean, she really is a hoot. Then, if you meet her mom, you will realize the apple did not fall far from the tree. The only odd thing is, you would never think her mom is her mom because she looks like she could be her sister. She has a youthfulness and glow about her that I would like to bottle and sell. Having met her a few times, I would say a lot of this comes from her mindset. She is positive and happy, and it is just infectious.
When Ali mentioned her mom was coming in town on a whim, I asked if she would style her in some of our new fall arrivals. Well, because this dynamic duo is two of the nicest people, they did it! I must say, she looks amazing. – Elizabeth of The Hive & The Shoe Hive
My beautiful mom is 67 years old and looks like she’s 40! She has always been very adventurous with shape, texture, and style, which has inspired me to push the envelope with my own wardrobe over the years. When Elizabeth asked me to style my mom for a photo shoot, I was so excited because The Hive has so many fun things that my mom would look phenomenal in. She lives in Jersey, so she spends most of her time with my daughter and me when she visits. This photoshoot was the perfect opportunity to spoil her and show her how beautiful she is! Check out how I styled my mom to make her look effortlessly cool.
Look One:
On the day of the shoot, all of the new Tibi came in, so I snatched this blouse and matching skirt. My mom has never showed much skin, something I’ve always admired and now emulate in my own wardrobe. Covering up can actually be incredibly sexy when done correctly. If you look closely, the Tibi skirt has an opening below the belt. I had my mom wear a black bodysuit to keep her skin from being exposed. I put her in a sleek pair of black boots to polish this look off! She looks so modern and cool. I’d also pair it with tall boots or opaque black tights and black pumps.
Look Two:
I love this Veronica Beard jacket. The detailing is perfection, and it’s the ideal year-round piece to add to your closet. My mom has always been a huge fan of neutrals, so this outfit really spoke to her. She’s on the cusp of being petite in height, so I felt that this set gave her some length. She felt so sharp and especially loved the sunglasses. It was really cool, so see her feel so great!
Look Three:
My mom is short-waisted and tends to keep things untucked, so this cool Tibi blouse was perfect and very her. I paired it with the new Tibi jeans to give the look even more of a wow factor! We both flipped out over the jeans. They have this structured parachute look to them, and the pockets are in different spots on the back. She said she had a similar pair in the 80s. I had to have them!
Look Four:
Ah yes, the Ulla Johnson sweat set. So so so comfy, but also so flattering. Sweatpants have a whole new meaning to her now! The little puff sleeve is the perfect level of puffy for her (everyone has their own level of puffy). I won’t lie to you; she would probably never wear sneakers with this because she felt “too young,” but I told her she looked so cool and needed to take a walk on the wild side. Sometimes it’s just more fun to wear something unexpected. Plus, those are the coolest Golden Goose I’ve ever seen!
