Tax-Free Weekend Is Coming! (Here's What We're Getting)
If you know me personally, or have seen any of my letters-to-the-editors in the local paper, you know that tax increases make me a little crazy. I get it, we have to pay taxes, but I just get to a point where I lose my mind and say: enough! With that in mind, I have a new favorite holiday: the Virginia Sales Tax Holiday. It happens the first weekend in August after the first Friday in August. This year, from this Friday, August 3 through this Sunday, August 5, there is no sales tax on purchases of clothing or shoes under $100 and school supplies under $20.But we have decided to make it an even a better holiday (OK, truthfully, Kelly from Bishop Boutique is the genius behind this idea)! We are paying sales tax on everything! It is going to be like you went shopping at the Delaware beaches for a weekend! There will be lots of items marked under $100, but really this is a great time to get newly arriving merchandise at a slight, temporary, discount. We have been unpacking boxes and boxes of new fall merchandise every day and you don’t have to pay the extra six percent, we will pay the sales tax for you.To get you ready, I asked everyone at the stores to pick their favorite new arrivals. As a side note, I also noticed that certain hurricane and emergency items are also tax free. So if you have been thinking about buying that portable generator, this weekend is the time. If you want more information on items that qualify go here. Happy tax-free shopping!
