What’s Old Is New

What goes around comes around. Fashion is definitely cyclical… there are only so many ways to restyle things, so it’s inevitable that you will see trends repeat themselves. For Fall 2021, we definitely see a resurgence of several trends from decades past. I’m happy to see that many of my old favorites are returning. Designers are constantly taking cues from the past while tweaking them to fit modern tastes.

Sweater Vests

One big trend from the 90s that is back this season is sweater vests. When it comes to a trend like this, I personally don’t like to lay down a lot of money. These aren’t investment pieces, in my opinion. I’d rather save my wardrobe budget for something that will carry me through from season to season. However, it’s definitely fun to play with these trends, especially after a year of pandemic dressing. We have two sweater vests that fit the bill perfectly. The houndstooth vest has been such a big hit... we are on our second reorder. More are on the way, too! A more subtle choice is this solid black vest. All you need is a long sleeve or elbow-length white shirt.

Chunky and Oversized Cardigans

Another 90s trend that is back is chunky, oversized cardigans. This is one of my personal favorites. I love to pair them with a tank top and skinny jeans. Yes - I’m still wearing skinny jeans. I don’t care what anyone says. They also look good worn with a cropped shirt. I always like to balance something baggy with something more fitted underneath.

Baggy Jeans

Speaking of jeans, in addition to skinny jeans, we have plenty of the on-trend baggier styles in store. Boyfriend, mom, flared, straight… you name it. My personal favorite (besides skinny) is the boyfriend jeans. Back in my college heydays, I’d pair them with a crop top that showed just the barest hint of skin along with a plaid flannel shirt of some kind. I do appreciate the variety of styles this season, especially compared to seasons past.
