Your Makeup Bag Essentials: Tools
Every home needs a basic tool bag. You may be able to hang a painting without a hammer but using the heel of a shoe won’t yield the same result and certainly won’t be as easy. The same is true for your makeup bag. Having the right tools makes all the difference.The tools below will make your daily routine much easier.
Beauty Blender
A Beauty Blender is a workhorse. This tool allows you to apply foundation, sheer out foundation that has gone on too thickly, apply cream blushes and highlighters, and layer on concealer. The Beauty Blender should be thoroughly wet and then squeezed to release excess water. The damp Beauty Blender works perfectly when the product is pounced on rather than dragged. Everyone who has one generally agrees it’s a game changer. The only people who tell me they don’t really like it are those who have been using it dry and didn’t know it was supposed to be damp. 
Flat Kabuki Brush
A flat kabuki brush is a multi-tasker. This is great for blending out foundation and for buffing on cream-based products. This brush is my go-to for applying cream contour. 
Flat Synthetic Eye Brush Medium Size
Whether applying eye primer or concealer, this brush is a must have for creamy eye products. The synthetic bristles mean the product will spread easily and the flat surface lays down just the right amount of product. 
Medium Size Natural Hair Eyeshadow Brush
If you were to pick only one natural hair eyeshadow brush this is the size to get. Great for applying under eye setting powder and all over eyeshadow. This brush can also double as a powder highlighter brush. Its size let’s you sweep the product on in a targeted fashion as it’s small enough to be precise, but big enough to allow you to sweep and blend the product out. 
Round Tip Eyeshadow Brush
My choice for applying crease color to the eyelids. Rather than sweeping and blending, I prefer to apply the color and swirl it into the crease in circles, blending the color out and adding more as desired for intensity. 
Eyelash Curler
Our eyelashes tend to grow straight and as we age our lids droop making the lashes droop as well. An eyelash curler really helps to give the appearance of longer lashes just by curling them back so we can see them against our eyelids. Just adding this step will make your eyes look bigger.
Obviously, there are a myriad of tools we could add to this list, but these are the most essential ones in my drawer. When I’m trying to pack light, these are the tools I take with me. Feel free to come by for a demonstration on how each of these tools can change your routine for the better.
