alexandria warehouse sale: pro tips (and a chance to get in early!)

Saturday, February 6 will be the 11th annual Alexandria Warehouse Sale. Every year the sale gets bigger and better and this year is no different. Most significantly, we are moving locations. Finding a space big enough for this great shopping event was no easy task! Thank goodness for the Alexandria Westin Hotel, located off Duke Street inside the Carlyle section of Old Town. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot.

The sale starts at 9am, and this year 30 great stores will set up booths inside the ballroom and in the hallways. We have your old favorites plus some new participants including…Lululemon! That is right! Everyone’s favorite workout gear store will be there for the first time!

After 11 years, I have come to anticipate attendees’ questions. In an effort to keep you all as informed as possible, here are the most commonly asked questions along with my answers, of course!

Do you have to buy a ticket?
No, in the tradition of a New York sample sale, this Warehouse sale is free and admission is first-come, first-served.

Will it be a mad house?
We control admission flow at the door so all customers have the space to look at all the great merchandise. We promise you an enjoyable shopping experience.

What stores are participating?
The Shoe Hive, Coco Blanca, Pink Palm, Mystique Fine Jewelers, Olio Tasting Room, and Sara Campbell are just a few. For a complete list, visit the event’s web page here.

Should I arrive early?
If you want to make sure you get first dibs at merchandise, then yes. Attendees begin lining up at least one hour before the sale starts. We can’t let everyone in at once; we have to observe the fire code so sometimes there is a wait once the doors have opened. Typically, there is no wait for the afternoon hours.

If I come later is there anything left?
YES!! I always tell folks if you aren’t one for the excitement of the crowd, come later. The line (which is indoors) and congestion tend to clear up around noon and there are plenty of great items and deals left to be found.

Is there any way to get to shop early?
Alexandria Stylebook is giving away four Early Entry passes; you and a guest can start shopping at 8am, a full hour before we open our doors. Click here for your chance to win!

How deep are the discounts?
You will find markdowns anywhere from 60 to 80 percent off. Each store is different, but for all participants these are the best deals of the season.

Are there dressing rooms?
There are no dressing rooms. Wear leggings and a tank top so you can easily try items on over your clothes. The secret of a warehouse sale is to come prepared.

Do stores take credit cards?
Yes, credit cards are taken on a store-by-store basis. Cash is accepted but please, no checks.

parking and shuttle info

Where do I park?
This year we are lucky to have two garages opening just for this event! The folks at Colonial Parking are kind enough to open two lots just for us and charge only $5 for the entire day. The lots are located next to the Westin at 2050 Ballenger Ave. and 1925 Ballenger Ave. There is limited metered street parking as well.

What If I don’t have a car?
You can take Metro’s Yellow or Blue line to King Street Station and use the Westin’s shuttle every 15 minutes to the hotel. If you aren’t up for the shuttle the walk is only a couple blocks.

Is there a coat check?
Yes, we will have free coat check all day.

Is there any place to eat?
The Westin will set up breakfast and lunch stations where light fare will be available for purchase. There is also a great restaurant located downstairs if you want to get a civilized meal or a cocktail after you are done shopping. Pasara Thai is the closest full-service restaurant to the Westin, and Panera, Jimmy Johns, and Starbucks are right around the corner as well.

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
