Sarah: My trainer encourages me to have protein before our sessions, but if I eat too much before working out it makes me sick. What is the best practice and what should I eat before training?
Adrien, Fitness on the Run: Great question. Everyone is different. Depending on the time of day you train, your pre-workout meal should contain a combination of carbohydrates and protein. If it makes you feel sick, definitely reconsider. You want to feel like you have sufficient energy and not too full. Really, the more important meal is AFTER you train. This is when your body requires enough protein to recover and build that amazing muscle you just earned.
