Five minutes before our photo shoot with @districtofchic last week, Tamara held up a pair of knee length jean shorts and said, “I still cannot believe these are back in!” I nodded my head, happily agreeing, and instantly decided to change the entire concept of the shoot. I guess that’s the mind of a creative, when inspiration can completely shift an idea!
Bermuda shorts. It’s safe to say that the majority of us feel confused. In my opinion, it’s because they feel slightly antiquated. I mean, when I think of Bermuda shorts I think of Baby from Dirty Dancing. The high-waisted, pleated, belted shorts that were sort of fabulous and then they disappeared.
What I’m loving about their resurgence is more than just the fact they look super cool with a blazer and a t-shirt. They suggest this sort of “I’m a rebel, but I’m still a lady” vibe, and I am all about vibes. Have you found that it’s difficult to find a pair jean shorts that aren’t too short, too young, too frayed, etc? The jean Bermuda short strikes such a nice balance. You can have your denim shorts, but you can also look conservative. Don’t get me wrong, I own jean shorts, but I there are certain casual occasions when I just won’t wear them.
So when @districtofchic walked into the store last week while Tamara and I were chatting about Bermuda shorts, it was like a sign! First off, if you don’t follow @districtofchic, it’s time that you did. She’s a working mom with a love for fashion, but what I love most about her is she has so many different looks that she rocks with full-blown confidence. If you scroll through her feed you’ll see her in anything from Balenciaga to cowboy boots. I knew she’d be up for running around Old Town in this awesome new trend! Scroll through the different ways you can rock Bermuda shorts and then head in to TSALT to try them on! We have two styles: Paige and Good American.
