Christine: I can’t bring myself to shop for summer clothing when it is cold outside, but I don’t want to wait so long that the selection is picked over. During seasonal transitions, when is the best time to shop?
Tara, Zoe Boutique: Many people can get really tired of wearing the same Fall colors when Spring is just around the corner. This leads shoppers to purchase those new Spring items that you see in all the magazine ads. For this reason, I wouldn’t wait too long. Boutiques like Zoe and our Stylebook sister stores begin receiving Spring items in February. Because we are small and limited on space, we tend to sell out more quickly than a department store would. Here are a couple of suggestions for Spring shopping when it’s not quite spring yet.
For the unique pieces that you know won’t be around long, buy now. We tend to carry one of each size in any particular item, so chances are it may not be around if you wait until Spring or Summer actually arrives. If it’s basic, wait and buy later. You will have several months to buy basic items before they become picked over. Basic items are also easier for stores to re-order, so you may be able to get it further into the season.
Shopping Tip: When you think you may be ready to start shopping, bring along a few Spring/Summer essentials to get you in the mood and fight the winter weather blues. Throw a pair of shorts or white denim and your favorite sandals in your bag. This will help you get a better idea of how items will look paired with your Summer staples. It will also brighten your mood!
