Building Blocks for Capsule Wardrobes

Everyone who engages with me about style wants to find a way to have less in their wardrobe but still have a variety of outfits. Finding ways to create thoughtful relationships with a variety of brands takes a little trial and error, and patience for that matter. This is what I do with clients every time we meet. I also have an opportunity to find these connections when I work on marketing and photo shoots for TSALT. A couple weeks ago, TSALT received a second shipment from Brochu Walker, along with a shipment from FRAME Denim. There within these two deliveries was a match made in style heaven!

First, I’ll introduce the players:

The Raw Smocked Sleeveless top from FRAME is a perfect building piece. It can be worn casually or built into an office look. TSALT received this in black and ivory and I could make a case for owning both for the minimalist wardrobe!

Next is the Adali Dress from Brochu Walker. It’s a silk-like polyester dress that has some nice rushing at the waist and adjustable straps. This is the slip dress that is not cut on the bias and offers a little shape as well as being cut more liberally for a tummy. I love the length and how you can take it on a vacation as a “going out” dress but also wear it with sneakers and a t-shirt for a casual day trip experience.

You surely remember my post about the benefit of jumpsuits over dresses! If not, go back and read that one (…for that matter, please read all of them!). In a nutshell, jumpsuits rule! The Nyssa is a really great one.

Never underestimate the power of the perfect clutch. Catherine Osti just sent TSALT three of the best clutches that might be your “forever” clutch! Nothing says chic like a black, well designed clutch and a perfect manicure! May I present to you, the Stephanie Clutch.

Now that we have our players, I’m going to show you how I experiment with clothing to find interesting ideas that exist within the confines of a boutique…or perhaps your own closet!

Take this look to the office and keep building on the pieces. Finding the right jacket for the final piece would have you well on your way to a capsule wardrobe!

TSALT and Brochu Walker bridge the age divide! No need to go into my age (again), but let’s just say Lilly here is a year younger than my daughter Lane! For those of you who have daughters who love to pilfer from your closet…how great is this dress for teens and beyond?! It’s my mission to teach women how to find pieces that they will have forever! Disposable fashion equals disposing of your money!! Buy Less, Choose Well! That’s all I have to say.

And finally, here are the looks for the amazing Nyssa jumpsuit. Another great travel items that will have you catching glances all over your travels this summer or just around town!

And there you have it! Whether Brochu Walker is a good fit for you, the ideas are valuable and can be used for your own shopping goals. I’m downsizing my own wardrobe this summer and practicing that style won’t be compromised with well edited choices. Capsule wardrobe seekers: these could be your pieces!
