Those CBD Patches? Yes, They Really Work

You’ve seen the patches on our checkout counter. You’ve asked if they work and the answer is yes. We’ve tried them, our customers have tried them, and the consensus is they work, but why?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a plant compound found in many nutritious vegetables including kale, broccoli, and echinacea. However, it is most abundant in hemp. When ingested in concentrated form, CBD is known to promote balance and tranquility and has been known to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, pain, and insomnia. Its benefits increase with regular use.

Taking CBD transdermally is one of the fastest delivery mechanisms for the supplement. Though the benefits of hemp have been anecdotally touted for hundreds of years, it has only recently come into the regulated marketplace. Naturally, misconceptions surround it. In other words, you won’t get high if you use it.

Transdermal patches are a quick and discreet way to optimize the absorption of hemp and other plant extracts into the body over the course of a 12-hour day. La Mend patches offer sustained relief by adhering to clean skin on a venous area. What makes the patches special — beyond the use of the highest quality, organically farmed hemp — is that they also contain tried-and-true plant extracts to address specific needs such as sleeplessness, anxiety, tiredness, and life’s little aches and pains.

The patches were developed by two people with one distinct purpose: to help people naturally. Medicine and drugs are not the only way to heal and treat common ailments. Hangovers, pain, and sleeplessness could be treated with CBD and eliminate the need for constant medication.

David Nicholson, a twenty-year veteran business owner of award winning organic day spas, kept hearing from clients about the power of phytocannabinoid products. In 2017, he joined forces with Betsy Scanlan, an accomplished advocate in the hemp industry who, after years of experience and research, had seen how hemp could heal the human body — from common ailments to more serious health issues. Their two stories evolved into one purpose: to create a company devoted to non-psychotropic uses of hemp. After a year of research and development, La Mend was born.

Why should I use a patch for a hangover when I can just take a pain reliever?

The warnings against combining alcohol with pain relievers aren’t there just to taunt you. Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and even aspirin, all come with potential dangers if you make a habit of taking them with alcohol. This goes for immediately post-imbibing, too, when you’re trying to preemptively treat the hangover-induced headache you know will hit in the morning.

When you’re drinking, you’re already sending a toxic substance to your liver and making it work overtime to filter it out. Adding ibuprofen or acetaminophen puts additional, overwhelming stress on the organ, increasing the risk of damage. It was this type of problem that La Mend sought to fix with its patches…safe and effective alternatives to drugs to treat common and recurring ailments, such as pain, hangovers and sleeplessness.

So, give the patches a try. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the results.

I have been a beauty junkie for what seems like forever, but before I did anything about it, I went to law school. (Yes, my life is a little like the reverse of Legally Blonde.) Then, I worked as a prosecutor in Sonoma County after which I moved to the DC area with my husband in ’97. I served as Majority Counsel to the Senate Banking Committee followed by a year-long stint at a lobbying firm. You get the picture. It was then that I decided to act on my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Finding my favorite beauty products proved to be impossible without stepping foot in a mall–the horror. So, I decided to bring my favorites to Alexandria. A few trips to New York and a flight to France and Bellacara was born in March 2000.

Located in historic Old Town Alexandria, for more than 17 years Bellacara has been Northern Virginia's preeminent boutique for high end cosmetic, skincare and haircare products. At Bellacara you will find premiere beauty products that have been carefully edited by the store’s owner, Angela Sitilides, who personally tests all the products sold in store. The boutique carries only the best product lines – Kiehl’s, Jouer, Dr. Dennis Gross, Christophe Robin, Moroccan Oil, Bumble & Bumble, Fresh, Molton Brown, Skinceuticals, Smashbox, Stila, Mario Badescu, Clarins, Dermalogica, Kevyn Aucoin, Kai, Child, St. Tropez, Smith and Cult, and many more.
