Design is critical. Let’s be honest, it’s not life saving, but it does make life worth living. It gives us beauty, aspiration, and constant inspiration. Companies from Porsche to Target incorporate design into everything they do and you notice and you feel good when you see it. Or repulsed, depending on the design, but at the very least, you feel.
In a day and age where we are numbed by the day’s news and the politics of this company town, design is more important than ever. Design, art, music, the written word, they are all self-expressions that we need.
And, you didn’t know it until now, but you need a rubber stamp by Wms. & Co. in your life. I don’t use this word often because I reserve it for only the most special things, but these stamps are perfection. The design feels comfortably familiar but thoroughly modern. They may be the most beautiful piece of office equipment I have ever seen. And, if you know me, you know I don’t effuse over just anything.
Wms. & Co. is the brainchild of JP Williams and Allison Muench Williams, the co-founders of award-winning design firm design MW. Their client list includes the likes of Jack Spade, Chilewich, Tiffany & Co., West Elm, Anthropologie, David Yurman, Neiman Marcus, and LL Bean. It is extensive and well-heeled to say the least, which means they know good design.
But, good design does not a successful product make. Form follows function for a product to really succeed and succeed these stamps do. They come in self-inking styles or a simple stamp with ink pad, which makes them very analog in our digital world. (And I, for one, need that.)
When you buy the stamp you get a code that you take to their website so you can order your custom plate. There are several pre-selected styles but you can certainly upload your own design. The text is then typeset by hand with a trained eye for design and a proof sent to you for approval. Easy breezy.
One of the things I love about Wms. & Co. stamps is that you will have them for a lifetime. The stamps can be changed with every move, the design is classic, and the quality is bar none. What I also love is that each of them (even the stamp pads are insanely gorgeous) is a beautiful object that can sit on a shelf or on your desk and will make you feel good.
Wms. & Co. stamps are a wonderful gift for newlyweds, for professionals like architects, engineers, and landscape designers who need to stamp their seal, for businesses to stamp their logos or “paid in full,” and for you, who simply wants to own the coolest object ever.
