I’ve mentioned in previous posts that bold colors are on trend for eye makeup this fall. While that’s true, most of us will eschew our taupe in favor of a purple or gray. Not exactly stand out, but still on the more daring side of our eyeshadow palette. Some of us aren’t twenty- or even thirty-something anymore, so it seems like the days of bold eye color in our makeup should be left to others. But what if I told you there was another color that looked good on every skin tone and age wasn’t a factor. Intrigued?
What if I told you it was yellow?
Okay, I know I just lost some of you. But hear me out. Yellow comes in many different shades and intensities. My Benjamin Moore paint fan has more shades of yellow than I can count. From pale and buttery, through vibrant and primary, to ambered and golden. Trust me, there’s a yellow for you.
We love how Beyonce uses a light hand to create an ethereal glow with the color. For a bolder take, we love how Rachel McAdams uses the color to line her eyes.
If you aren’t sure how to make this work for you, then start easy. Use it as an accent on the round part of your eyelid, the inner or outer edges of your eye, or just as an eyeliner. Keep the rest of your makeup subtle with fresh peachy or pink-y tones on cheek and lips. Make sure to ground the color on the eyelids by using some brown or black eyeliner along the lash line and a generous amount of mascara.
For those of you willing to go bold, we suggest Stila Waterproof Smudgestick in Canary for a vibrant line it can also be smudged into a shadow as well.
Whatever your style, we find the color refreshing and love that such a vibrant shade is being used in the fall. It’s sure to make a cold, gray day feel less dreary!
I have been a beauty junkie for what seems like forever, but before I did anything about it, I went to law school. (Yes, my life is a little like the reverse of Legally Blonde.) Then, I worked as a prosecutor in Sonoma County after which I moved to the DC area with my husband in ’97. I served as Majority Counsel to the Senate Banking Committee followed by a year-long stint at a lobbying firm. You get the picture.
It was then that I decided to act on my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Finding my favorite beauty products proved to be impossible without stepping foot in a mall–the horror. So, I decided to bring my favorites to Alexandria. A few trips to New York and a flight to France and Bellacara was born in March 2000.
Located in historic Old Town Alexandria, for more than 17 years Bellacara has been Northern Virginia's preeminent boutique for high end cosmetic, skincare and haircare products. At Bellacara you will find premiere beauty products that have been carefully edited by the store’s owner, Angela Sitilides, who personally tests all the products sold in store. The boutique carries only the best product lines – Kiehl’s, Jouer, Dr. Dennis Gross, Christophe Robin, Moroccan Oil, Bumble & Bumble, Fresh, Molton Brown, Skinceuticals, Smashbox, Stila, Mario Badescu, Clarins, Dermalogica, Kevyn Aucoin, Kai, Child, St. Tropez, Smith and Cult, and many more.
