Why would you spend a penny on a personal trainer, fitness class, gym membership and/or coach when you should be able to motivate yourself and get fit on your own?

Because life gets in the way…

I have about 15 personal clients with whom I work. They are lawyers, executive coaches, CEOs, senior vice presidents, chief lobbyists, business owners, chiefs of staff, presidents, and moms.

They are busy.

We work on their strength, their mobility, their “cardio,” their flexibility, their stability, and their own image of those things. We work on their nutrition and cravings. We work on their overall health: hormones, sleep, stress resilience. They are strong, feel more confident with their movements, and, yes, feel awesome in their clothes.

Do you think any of them have something come up on a regular basis that would prevent them from spending time on their priority, their fitness?


I hold a distinct position on their calendar. I represent a top priority for them. They’ve committed this much to me. I commit I will be there educating and entertaining them, with movements so fun they’ll even forget they’re actually working at times! Their health, fitness, and their view of themselves are top priorities.

I show up. They show up.

Without that appointment, without that person with whom you’ll find accountability, it is simply difficult to place a “barbed wire fence” around your coveted appointment with me or with any fitness class or session. It is more difficult to turn down your boss’ / your kids’ / your colleagues’ needs. It is difficult to put your needs above those of others.

They realize this may be the only thing they do for themselves that day. So, they do not miss. I know they sometimes wish they didn’t have the session. When we are finished though, they are so happy they did.

They did something for themselves. They contributed to their health, fitness, and happiness…and that is actually a gift to those who rely upon them.

Adrien founded Fitness on the Run in 2004 out of her home after a successful career in policy and public affairs communications. Most days, you can find her helping clients with their wellness, listening to success stories, and bragging about her twin 13-year-old children and “fittest man in Alexandria” Bill Cotton. Adrien prides herself on her practice of mindfulness, meditation, and putting it all into perspective.
