I’ve talked to so many friends about what’s going on. Everyone is worried and stressed out. But there is one underlying tone with everyone – they wish they could do more. That’s the beauty of the human spirit, in my opinion. Even in the face of trouble ahead, people want to know how they can help others. However, most are apprehensive to leave their home and I completely understand that. I thought I’d compile a list for our stylebook readers of ways they can help those in need in our community.
One organization that is near and dear to my heart is Casa Chirilagua. They primarily serve the families at Mount Vernon Community School but are a neighborhood resource for many Central American families. They could really use some help. Here’s some information from a recent email on how you can support Casa Chirilagua families:
If you are healthy and willing and able to leave your house, another option is to volunteer to distribute meals for ACPS students who would normally receive a free and reduced lunch. I’m signed up for a few shifts and just plan on wearing gloves and doing my best. Even in these challenging times, kids can’t go hungry. You can also sign up to help deliver meals to seniors with Meals on Wheels.
