Le Specs, the Solution to the Murphy’s Law of Eyewear

We have all been there: you’re at Neiman’s or Nordstrom and you find that pair of designer sunglasses you can’t live without. Maybe it is Gucci or Prada, but when you put them on you look like a movie star, or if not a movie star, at least a version of yourself that’s 10 years younger. Problem is, these are undoubtedly the one pair of sunglasses you will either throw in your bag accidentally and get them scratched, or your toddler will stretch them out while you’re not looking, or your dog will eat them for breakfast, or you will leave them behind in an Uber, at a restaurant, or maybe in a dressing room. Who knows really, because if you knew you would go back and get them, every last one of the perfect-pairs-of-sunglasses-you-had-back-when.

Then there are the cheap ones you buy at maybe a truck stop or Claire’s when you are there with your daughter that cost maybe $10 and you can’t lose them to save your life. If you drop them in a swimming pool, someone else retrieves them. If you’re in your car, they’re always in the console, where they’re supposed to be. They don’t look great, but you literally could have them in your possession for years.

It seems like it is the Murphy’s Law of eyewear.

After this cycle repeats itself a few times, you get gun-shy on spending real money on sunglasses, right? Especially if you are like me and you have strategically stationed a couple pairs in your car, your purse, and your pool bag — there are just too many to make them all expensive. But you want to look cute, right?

We have found the perfect line for The Hive, Le Specs. Created in 1979, it is an iconic Australian brand that seems to be popping up in boutiques everywhere these days. It seems like the Aussies have the corner on the market for all things beach related. The price and styles are great; everything is less than $100, a price that may be cheap enough to magically keep them around.

Don’t worry, we still have Krewe at The Shoe Hive and they have great new styles for spring that we just unpacked.

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
