Several weeks ago, I pulled select pieces of clothing from The Shoe Hive for a regular client. In my pull were several tops from one of my favorite brands: French favorite IRO Paris.
My client decided to get a couple of other Hive blouses that better suited her needs, and I have to admit…I kind of did a little jump for joy when she left the IRO blouse behind. I knew right away it would be the perfect piece for spring and even into hotter summer days.
As we all know, layering is not always an option in the dead heat of a D.C. summer. When it is 90 degrees out, I look for truly unique and versatile tops and bottoms that make two-piece dressing a breeze. This IRO top fits the bill perfectly. I have styled it no less than 10 different ways since I bought it. It has worked for more professional settings, casual weekend days, and even date nights out with my husband.
My work as a personal stylist doesn’t call for a traditional buttoned-up office look. I do still want to look polished and professional, but always with a little funky twist. The boxy fit of the IRO top feels very of-the-moment, but the classic cigarette pants from Kiskadee ground the look. The pop of neon of the Butter block-heel pumps is the perfect dash of unexpected style I love to incorporate in my daily look.

Ok, so this isn’t exactly what I am hitting up the soccer field wearing. But, I DID wear the top with a white muscle tank underneath, my denim shorts and black sandals to my older son’s game.
This look, though, I would wear to brunch with my family and friends. I layered the IRO top over a white t-shirt and white flares, which transformed it from French-girl cool to ’70s chic.

I wore this exact outfit just a few weekends ago to a dinner party. I am loving the wider-leg, cropped denim look this season and it’s all but replaced my boyfriend jeans when I want a break from my skinnies. The IRO top — a winner again — is a great pairing with the volume of the jeans because of its boxy silhouette. I love the mix of tomboy and feminine elements in this look.
