A Few Looks We are Loving for Mother’s Day

One of the very best things about living in Alexandria for me, is that my parents live just about a mile away from our house in Old Town and they have always been part of our everyday lives. Before this coronavirus madness fully set in, my mom (aka Nona) would have at least one, if not all three of my boys over to play six or seven days a week – the boys never turn down an invite to go over to Nona’s house! Now we haven’t seen my parents in-person in almost eight weeks, and it’s definitely been one of the hardest parts of this social distancing for me. Given how much my mother means to me, and how much she means to the boys, our not being able to celebrate as an entire family on Mother’s Day this year will really be tough to stomach (it also happens to be her birthday). But in a strange way, the circumstances this year seem to make us appreciate everything a little bit more. We will have a positive attitude and we will make the very best of it, finding new (but different) ways to celebrate Mother’s Day.But we will celebrate! Maybe starting today with a Cinco de Mayo margarita…?My boys are ages six and under and I think it’s really important to continue having celebrations during these difficult times so things feel “as normal as possible” for everybody, but especially the kids. Put the sweatpants in the laundry and #getdressed for the special day, plan a great brunch, do something fun to celebrate you and all the amazing mommas out there. Here are a few looks we are loving for Mother’s Day: This is one of our favorite sister sets – with the peter pan collar and the Secret Garden Floral print, it’s sweet for spring, summer, and transitions well into fall (dress $52, bubble $49). It’s perfect for Sunday’s celebration.  My Mom is Magical! I was pretty much ignored when I tried to read this adorable book to my gang while they were distracted having a lightsaber battle, but I plan to have their full attention next time when we sit down to read it – because they need to understand that Mom is Magical! This yellow Rosie Bubble (on sale for $46) from Little English is sweet and spunky and looks adorable with the classic Florence Eiseman bubble ($60).   Wearing your PJs more than usual? I’m all for it, when they are this cute and comfortable. We have a Roller Rabbit pajama addiction in my house, and I will tell you there is no such thing as too many matching pairs (women’s $118, kids $65). We love the sweet “First Days” set (comes in pink or blue hearts, $150) for all of the new moms, it includes a baby hat and gown and a robe for mom.  To me, from me. As a boy mom, unlike my friends with daughters, I don’t have as many opportunities to match my guys --  so I’m loving this swim collection from The Beaufort Bonnet Company, the Koi print comes in bathing suits for girls, boys, dad, and a coordinating one piece for mom that I will be gifting myself on May 10. Even if we are confined to a slip and slide in our backyard, we will love wearing them this summer.  Planning a picnic? These shift dresses are darling for the day. The green Reese Dress (on sale for $46) is a closet classic and pairs perfectly with our favorite pink and green Garden dress from J. Bailey ($66).I wish all of you amazing moms a wonderful Mother’s Day this weekend! Celebrate with your family – whether you get to be with your mom or not – and have the best day. Now more than ever, you deserve it. Cheers!
