Making the Most of Summer in Alexandria

Moment of truth: are you guilty of letting your summers pass by without ever allowing yourself to fully relax and savor the season? In September, do you wonder how the heck summer went by so fast? Us, too! We’re on a mission to enjoy ourselves and reset before the Alexandria real estate market really takes off again the fall. Let’s take it one step at a time and focus on what fun we can have around Alexandria during the end of June and the month of July. (Already July?! Case in point.)

1. See the Mount Vernon Fireworks Show

Mount Vernon Estate’s annual Independence Day fireworks show will take place tonight and tomorrow night starting at 6pm. This show is choreographed to patriotic events and is one of our all-time favorite summer activities. Get your tickets here

2. Try a new restaurant

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Augie’s Mussel House on the Patio, located on King Street in what used to be Hunting Creek Steakhouse. They’re scheduled to open sometime this summer.

3. Country Concerts at Jiffy Lube Live

Every summer, we look forward to outdoor country concerts at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow. It’s relatively easy to get to and so much fun to set up shop and tailgate beforehand. This year, we’re especially looking forward to Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, and Luke Bryan. Diehard Jimmy Buffett fans probably already know that he’ll be there on August 4th!

4. Old Town Pub Crawl and Alexandria’s 269th Birthday Celebration

Port City Brewing Company is hosting their fifth annual Old Town Pub Crawl Saturday, July 7th. Eight Old Town restaurants have signed on to participate, offering Port City brews and food specials. After that, head over to Oronoco Bay Park for the annual celebration of Alexandria’s birthday, complete with an incredible fireworks show rivaled only by the one at Mount Vernon. 269 years…hard to believe!

5. Stop by The Wharf

This place really does deserve all the hype. Grab dinner (we’re excited about the opening of La Vie in July) then catch a show at The Anthem. Follow it up with drinks and breathtaking water and city views at Whiskey Charlie atop D.C.’s first Canopy by Hilton

6. Boat to Nats Park

Hop on Potomac Riverboat Company’s Baseball Boat to enjoy a scenic trip to Nats Park, sans traffic. Potomac Riverboat Company’s Water Taxi will also take you to The Wharf, National Harbor and MGM, the National Mall, and Georgetown. No need to worry about parking! If you’re looking for even more convenience, we have a few waterfront listings offering private docks from which you could set sail to these destinations from your personal boat!
