The Most Wonderful Weekend of the Year

The best weekend in Old Town is finally here! Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend has come again! As president of the Junior Friends of The Campagna Center, I have seen firsthand the weeks and weeks (and weeks) of devoted planning that go into this weekend, and I am so excited to see my fellow Junior Friends’ hard work pay off!Keep reading for the full schedule of events and an idea of what you can expect at each one. Each event offers something different and raises important funds for The Campagna Center’s core programs benefiting local children, adults, and families, so try to stop by as many as possible! Rain or shine, this weekend, full of merry moods, cute Scottie dogs, bagpipes, lots and lots of plaid, festive Alexandrians, and garland galore will surely put you in the holiday spirit. Heather & Greens Sale Get your wreaths, garlands, and fresh heather bundles at this one-stop shop, located behind The Campagna Center on Friday and Saturday between 9am-5pm, or until supplies sell out. The bows on these wreaths, which the Junior Friends have spent many, many hours assembling (it’s a lot harder than it looks!), are on point this year.

Taste of Scotland This is one of our favorite holiday events — and I’m still not the world’s biggest fan of scotch, so that’s saying something! Everyone gets glammed up and sparkly for an evening of scotch tasting, along with beer, wine, and food, in Old Town’s Atrium Building starting at 6:30pm on Friday night. Tickets are running low, so don’t wait to get yours!
Scottish Christmas Walk Parade If you’re new to the area or for some reason haven’t seen this parade yet, you absolutely must! There is no other time of year when Old Town shines as bright. Local businesses, Scottish clans, dignitaries, Santa, and many others all come together for a loop around Old Town’s major streets. Line up along the parade route with your kids for glimpses of adorable Scottie dogs, the sounds of bagpipes, and a more-than-fair share of candy canes, fun trinkets, and more. This parade will take place on Saturday starting at 11am and will happen rain or shine, so even if the weather’s poor, grab an umbrella and come on out! The fun, festive atmosphere will make up for it.
Holiday Home Tours This is a rare opportunity to step inside some of the most spectacular homes in Old Town. These houses are breathtaking at any time of year, but this weekend, they’ll be decked in their holiday finest with the help of acclaimed interior designers and local florists. It’s like looking through your favorite furniture or textile company’s holiday catalog — only seeing it all in person, right in front of you, all done by incredibly talented local professionals. What better way to get inspiration for your own holiday décor? Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased here. The Holiday Home Tours will take place from 12:30-4pm on Saturday, so you can come and go as you please.
If there is one weekend to come to Old Town (and you know we love spending every weekend in Old Town), this is it. We can’t wait to see you there in your most festive (and warmest) attire!
