“Sissy, have you lost your mind?" Our Golden Goose Story

Luckily for me, my little sister Rebecca has taken over doing a ton of work at both stores. It is all behind the scenes, so you don’t see her there but it has been life changing for me and my stores. If you made two lists, one of all the things I am not good at, and another of all the things she is good at, they’d both be the same list. She is the yin to my yang, for sure. She puts all the purchase orders in the system, deals with all the invoicing, and, most importantly, manages the buy, which is a rolling process. She keeps me on track with the budget, the flow of inventory, and tells me when a brand or category isn’t performing, and so on.Not only do we have different strengths when it comes to business, we have differences when it comes to clothing. She thinks many of the things I wear are nuts. She lives in Lululemon and athleisure wear and will be the first to tell me I don’t need to buy things. She is the much more responsible one of us, for sure.So about six months ago when she was entering the first Golden Goose order she called me and said, “Sissy, have you lost your mind? I was curious what all these expensive sneakers were that I was putting in the system were and I Googled them and they look dirty.”To which I replied, “I know! Aren’t they awesome? You will be obsessed with them, I promise.”She disagreed. I think her words were, “I would never pay that for sneakers.”Rebecca, although 12 years younger than me, is much more financially responsible. When they arrived, however, she bought a pair hook, line, and sinker. She texts me daily to see when the balance of spring is arriving because she wants the color-block pony hair ones that look more like a running shoe. Then for fall she has already told me to hold the pink glitter high tops in her size. She is obsessed.I tell you all this because I really don’t know how to explain the cult following of these shoes. They are just amazing. Hand-made in Italy (as all good shoes are), they are the most comfortable shoes I own. For some reason they also look good with everything.Customers at The Shoe Hive have agreed and I am so thrilled. We just got in the last of our styles for spring. We have a huge order arriving this summer. We have created a look book to give you a sneak peak. They run in whole sizes and most people tend to size up. Give us a call or email me at elizabeth@theshoehive.com if you want us to hold a pair; they have been flying off the shelves. My fellow business owner Megan Brown of Mind The Mat asked me about the obsession surrounding these shoes as well, recently. All I knew to say was: I don’t know, they are just a thing.
