Rompers: The Easy and Comfortable Dress Alternative

We all love dresses, it makes getting ready easy and you look put together without having to give it much thought. But since events are canceled only more casual dresses seem to be worth buying these days. So, what is the alternative to a dress when you want something easy and comfortable? A romper, jumper, or coveralls of course!

I have long had an affinity for these versatile garments, starting in the 70s with the terry cloth version. I am sure most of you remember: they were shorts and then straight across up top with spaghetti straps that tied. I found some for Blair when she was little, and it made my eyes tear up when she wore them – she looked so cute. Over the last 10 years I have built a rather substantial collection of rompers. I have short sleeve, long sleeve, shorts, wide leg pants, and every material from sweat suit fabric to silk.

This spring is the biggest season yet, especially for coveralls. Every collection from Sundry to ALC has an option and I could not be happier. There are the more refined and the more casual, but there is something for everyone. I of course want every one of them! A few are even on sale.

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
