Silk vs. Satin Pillowcases: What’s the Difference?

You’ve been contemplating buying a silk pillowcase for some time, but you just can’t seem to justify shelling out the cash. Maybe a satin pillowcase is a good place to start. Ever since I brought in the Slip Silk Pillowcase line, I’ve heard the same lament “I really want to get one of those pillowcases, but I’m just not sure I can justify it.”If you’ve been sleeping on cotton for most of your life, it may seem like an extravagance you don’t need. You know that cotton wicks moisture and you really hate putting on your nightly skincare only to have your pillowcase suck it up like a cocktail on vacation, but do you really need a silk pillowcase? What if it isn’t life changing? It occurred to me that satin pillowcases offer many of the benefits of silk, but at a third of the price. What if you could try that first? Satin is glossy, moves with your hair and skin, and doesn’t soak up your skincare like cotton. Your hair and skin will assuredly be happier on satin than cotton. I decided to bring in an array of satin pillowcase options for those who want to wade into the shallow before diving into the deep end of the pool.  So, if satin works…why make the switch at all? Silk is a natural fiber, and as such it does offer a couple of important additional benefits. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, which keeps your sleep surface clear of allergens, dust mites, and mold. These skin irritants can cause breakouts. Additionally, because silk is a natural fiber it breathes. You’ll find that a silk pillowcase doesn’t heat up as much as satin for this reason. If you like a cool pillow, you may eventually want to trade up. Either way, you’ll find you have better hair days if you ditch that cotton pillowcase.
