Spring2ACTion: Sip, Shop & Support YoKid

I have two philosophies about yoga. One, it is the fountain of youth we have all been trying to find. I have always enjoyed exercise but the older I get the more I realize if I don’t stretch I can’t keep it up. Yoga is the solution to this problem. My second philosophy is that the world would be a better place if we all did yoga. When I take a class I feel more focused, centered, and the stress level I had before I started the class has notably decreased. My kids went to Montessori and took yoga and I realized then how effective it was, even for children. Just the attentiveness to breathing he learned helped my son calm himself when life-altering things happened in toddler days, like not being able to find a blanket, or a red crayon breaking.Joking aside, despite the fact that I don’t practice enough, I believe in the power of yoga.So when Gina White and Tricia Holley, two of my good friends, asked me to work with YoKid for Spring2ACTion, I jumped at the chance. I mean, doing an event with friends and supporting a great cause is a win-win.YoKid, which was founded in Alexandria by Michelle Mitchell Kelsey, is committed to bringing yoga and mindfulness to under-served kids and teens in support of enhanced outcomes for life, health, school, and leadership. YoKid classes for kids and teens can be found on-site at schools, community centers, and youth-friendly places in Metro D.C. area.It is also a win-win for customers. I don’t think there is an easier way to donate money to a great cause. All you have to do is shop, and we are having a party! Stop by The Shoe Hive from 6-9pm on Wednesday, April 25 for cocktails in the courtyard, live music, and meet some of the amazing kids that benefit from this great organization. I will donate 20 percent of sales to YoKid. You don’t have to even do downward dog! Does it get easier than that??If you can’t stop by in the evening, don’t worry. Stop in either The Shoe Hive or The Hive during the day and just let us know you are shopping for YoKid.
