Everyone knows that I love Old Town’s original personalized gym: Fitness on the Run. It has been a part of my life for about a decade now. The thing that I think makes FOR stand apart from any other personal training gym is the quality of its people. Their trainers are not only completely committed to your overall health and well-being, they are just overall awesome people.
A few months ago I started training with Andre Crochet; you might have seen her before in Stylebook, when we featured her to talk about her skills as a trainer.
Today, I am here to talk about her mad skills when it comes to fashion. This girl knows how to shop! When you’re a daughter of the South, getting dressed up is just how you are raised. A Louisiana native, Andre was just born into it. But let’s face it, personal style isn’t just about what you are wearing. It is something more than that, and Andre just has it!
When I walk in the gym, she always greats me with “hey girl!” and a big smile. Her southern drawl and infectious laugh just make you want to grab a sweet tea or possibly a cocktail with her later on — and since she’s from Louisiana, you know something stronger is sometimes on the agenda.
I have to admit, even though she works me hard with the kettle bells, our sessions tend to fly by since we are chatting about clothes a large majority of the time — in between reps of course.
Andre’s shoes, shirt, necklace and bag are all from The Shoe Hive.
How do you spend your time? I spend most of my time training clients at Fitness on the Run and in DC, being a tourist with my husband, Jorge, making our health a priority, and going home to Louisiana to visit family and friends as much as possible.

I spent the first part of my career as a copy-writer who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive. At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
Heard the buzz? The Shoe Hive & The Hive are a pair of luxury boutiques in Old Town Alexandria. Featuring both big name designers like Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman and smaller brands like AGL and L'Agence, our unique selection and impeccable service are what set us apart.
